man, black hammer has really exploded. i keep thinking its been like a couple miniseries but they've hellboy'd that entire series now. I meant to buy the first trade and now i have an entire franchise to catch up on. i wonder if dark horse is going to do those nice softcover omnis like they did for hellboy stuff.

i'm sure jeff will do something like that. its kind of crazy that it even comes out from DH since he controls all of it (from my understanding). i've really enjoyed nearly his entire output ever since way back when he was just getting into monthly comics after ESSEX COUNTY and would frequent a msg board that i was a mod on. comparing the guy i used to chat with and the guy in recent interviews, he seems to have always had an insane work ethic and is always super far ahead on stuff so him having that kind of personality i'm willing to bet BH has literally dozens of books being plotted/ created that we wont know about until like 2021

if you are just trying to enjoy the main book though, you honestly can read just that though. the others flesh out some cool bits and are good stories on their own, but i don't think youd be missing out on 'important' stuff

Matt Smith, who did all the Minibosses album art, is doing art duties for an upcoming Hellboy+BPRD story written by Mignola!

i'm with you, i can't get enough BH and will buy literally all of it. i bought the goddamn encyclopedia aka Who's Who! which technically announced a new 12 issue mini in its pages weeks before it just got officially announced today at SDCC

I skipped the encyclopedia and this is the 1st I heard of it.

Cool! I'll keep an eye out for it.

Oh wow, I wonder how much DH is 'sheparding' this project w/ him. Like are they trying to force engineer a new Hellboy style juggernaut?

And yeah, you can pretty much pick-n-chhose what books to get.
But also I bet most libraries will have the trades or try Hoopla.

Saw the SDCC announcement for Marvel's next slate and it looks pretty wild.

Not paying for another streaming service to watch the shows, but damn they are putting money out for content.

HIX-MEN, I love that pun.

Hearing good things about the 1st issue.
I think Marvel is being reckless tho, planning 6 mutant books after the 2 minis are done.

Place bets on which ones fold first.

I went a day late this week--started a new part time gig with weird hours--and bought the GLOW Summer Special written by Devin Grayson.

Looking forward to reading it.

I almost bought the BH Encyclopedia from last week, but talked myself out of it--that bad boy is going to turn up in dollar boxes licky-split and when it does...

Almost bought the 1st issue of Archie VS Predator II but then I had to admit to myself I've had a hardcover of the first one and still haven't read it.

Instead I got Super-Team Family Giant #9 from 1977, featuring Challengers of the Unknown and Doom Patrol, and World's Finest #261 from 1981.

They were $4 a piece, and look to have more content than a 2019 comic.

There was also a free preview of the new GI Joe ongoing IDW is launching soon.
I'm interested to see what they do after a few botched tries in a row, and the unstable nature of the company right now.

Has anyone here read "Invasion From Planet Wrestletopia"?

I want to try it out but haven't bought any digital books, so it would mean starting a comixology account and giving more money to Amazon. Worth it?

I finally watched Punisher War Zone this week, and maaaaaan is that a missed opportunity of a movie.

IDK who is to blame, but it is clear that they only figured out what kind of movie they were making toward the end as they went along--almost felt like it was shot in order which is unlikely.
Had a chance to be a pretty good "Verhoeven-style ultraviolence satire" but just was not.
Could have been like the original CROW movie, but there was no personal vision or investment from anyone involved.

If it'd had less money--a smaller budget than the Dolph Lundgren one--it could have been an enduring nugget of pre-Marvel Greatness like a couple of the BLADE movies.
Also felt weirdly like a sequel to the original The Mask movie w/ Jim Carrey.

New headcanon: Microchip and Newman are the same person.

Anyone have a favorite overlooked comics news story from SDCC?

Matt Groening is starting a new comic company, Bapper Books, to publish Disenchanted comics.

just got a box of self published stuff from Michael Kupperman and am super excited to read it. one thing is a mini comic about when he was a kid and found out his neighbor was Peter Torkelson from THE MONKEES and if you know Kupperman's humor at all, you know there is no way to know whether this is a real premise or something totally bizarre without reading it. hyped!

I started a new part time job last week, went back to my regular on/off job, and made some spare cash building a cat patio for a rich person.

So this week I went a little wild on the comics.

Bought Lois Lane #2, the fist 2 issues of the new Usagi Yojimbo from IDW, the first 2 issues of Assassin Nation from Kyle Starks and Erica Henderson, awa 3 dollar comics: 2 old Howard the Ducks by Gerber/Colan and a random McKeever issue, Faith, from his Vertigo years.

Looking forward to laying around and reading this weekend.

I was hoping for a couple of good old DC 100pg Giants or something like that, but didn't find anything that caught my eye.

Update:
I ordered 3 & 4 of Assassin Nation from mycomicshop along with a couple issues of Weird War featuring GI Robot and the Creature Commandos.

If Golden Apple still has issue 5 this Wed., I'm all set.

heads up nerds! theres a new Zdarsky image book today that you might not have seen before so dont skip it if you are in the shop! its called WHITE TREES and looks to be some sort of fantasy thing that is also pretty horny and has an adults warning so yknow, Chip being Chip. its only gonna be 2 big issues so it should be a nice little story (even if it just confuses me as to why they didnt release it as one thing, but whatever, thats their job to figure out not mine)

Oh, only 2 issues? I should have picked it up than yesterday. shoot.

Thumbed thru it, looked good but not particularly 'my thing' with the fantasy setting.

I skipped new comic book day today, and last week went a day late.
Lately, even tho I'm still buying new stuff, I'm much more interested in old DC Giants with silly stories about Superman and such.

Event Leviathan hasn't done too much to warrant its run yet, but it is good to see the OG Question, and Kate Spencer back!

I'm still enjoying the Black Hammer books, but not exactly excited by them.

(I wonder if this is a side effect of the zoloft I'm on now?)
