Opinion poll time: if your workplace pays for a parking spot in a nearby parking garage so you can park your car at work, and then relocates their office to another building where the nearest, cheapest parking pass costs $75 per month, should they be obligated to cover the cost of your parking? Or at least, up to the equivalent of the cost of your old parking pass? Asking for my fiancee.

Personally, I see it as equivalent to a $900 annual pay cut.

Obligated depends on the terms for hire. If the parking permit was part of the hire agreement, then sure. Otherwise, I'd consider it pretty lucky that they paid for a parking spot at all before.

^ That.  It would have to be in a contract somewhere that she's entitled to a paid parking spot.

Today at work I discovered why a former peer was let go.  (Well, I knew why, but recent events further justifiy it.)  Rather than take time to automate certain very important processes, he preferred to do everything manually, presumably to make him look important.  Job security for me I guess now that I've exposed it and fixed it

I've got the reverse problem here. There's a guy on a shift that LOVES automating every possible aspect of his job. While I appreciate the effort, it's often wrong/inaccurate, and only marginally more efficient than if he'd done it manually (or at least manually checked it). Same problems every day, which aren't anything big, but are completely avoidable. I know he does it because he's into programming and not... well, THIS, but I've had to shoot down some of his more ambitious ideas because it would far, far, far more complicated to not do it that way.

Been a rough night so far, only 3 hours into my shift and once the 8 hours are clocked, it's another hour commute home yayyyy.

Shift didn't start until 11pm tonight. Had to wake up at 3:45pm to help chimonstray's twin brother set up lights for his short film set before he starts filming again tomorrow, and then it turned out that she picked him up just before I left for a bank appointment at 5pm. So there's an hour of sleep lost that I could sure have used before this shift. Then I got home at 6 and decided to stay up because we had to run some errands after she dropped him off at 7, so I tagged along to save time. We didn't get home until 9 so there went the rest of my sleep.

First two hours of my shift were pretty much non-stop guest calls for shit we don't have or offer (you notice the restaurant across the lobby and decide to ask ME for plastic utensils?) and the lounge asking for money to pay out the VLT machines, which I have to deliver by hand. So, I don't care if I've already had like 4 colas this week; I grabbed another one on my way back from the lounge tonight and I'll LOVE it.

Working is stupid. Let's go back to beating each other with clubs and rocks.

I stumbled through the day like a zombie, unable to function efficiently or actually be aware of what I was really doing. I can barely remember anything that happened.

Tell those oysters they're not getting paid to smoke.

Sorry for double post. Anyway, a 500-person conference took place for the Lethbridge Pregnancy Care Centre, which I didn't know existed, and just now as the conference centre was emptying out I heard a lady start almost all of her statements with "God has shown me..."

Even the ones that didn't start out like that still had "God" somewhere in them, and I think she miiiight be the mother of a woman who was talked out of an abortion and now suffers in silence. Her mom said "And I'm just so thankful that God turned her life around," which led me to believe that she might just be one of those pushy people who thinks everyone's one true goal is to have children despite the fact that people exist who cannot be happy once they have children. The way she kept spewing unwarranted statements about how fortunate her daughter was to be a parent just sounded ignorant and arrogant, like she knows best. I'd like to have heard the honest truth from her daughter if she'd been around; if she really is genuinely happy, then cool and congratulations, however if she regrets any aspect of it, then I'd really like that mom to change her tune about being manipulative and terrible.

Either someone collapsed or died in front of my building this morning. Thankfully it wasn't any of my patients! I wouldn't normally assume death but there's WAY more EMTs/cops than for a normal case of someone just passing out or whatnot. Yikes
