And that's not what capitalism is either.

Jobs can suck under any economic system, and they can sure as hell suck a whole lot worse than:

Worker: "Hey boss, can I have the next 3 weekends off?"

Boss: "Sure! if you work a few extra hours doing the week!"

Not even a full weekend but a Saturday. You know, something that workers had to fight for under capitalism. Also the days are unpaid. He doesn't get paid time off until 90 days of tenure and that's only two personal days. Oh and he's going to be working 11 hour shifts.

The comment was less about work sucking or not but the quality of life. He's not getting any paid time off and the boss is making him work more hours. That's fucked up. Communism has been pretty generous about worker compensation and time off. Shit, even "social democracies" are more generous.

My old buddy Max on Twitter:

The endgoal of civilisation has been and always will be to hit a point where we can live our lives out and not have to be stressed by work. Automation removing jobs is a good thing

When humanity hits a point that people can focus on doing what they love for the sake of doing it, we will have a much higher quality of life

To which I responded:

When that occurs, and people can create art unhindered by a lack of resources, so too will there be people who are able to make better tools to further those resources. Passion is not influenced by economy; it is only inhibited by it. Capitalism is prison for everyone but the 1%.

Btw capitalism is observably and evidently only upheld to maintain the segregation of people from each other based on class, which in turn is the arbitrary labelling of people based on wealth. Money is worthless and does not belong in a self-proclaimed civilized society. "Shiny thing good, prove self useful for shiny thing or other thing that represents shiny thing" is so primal and stupid that it has led to shit like censoring the internet in many countries, violating people's right to freedom of information. CAPITALISM IS DYSTOPIAN BY NATURE.

I moved from a state where:

My job gave me 2 sick days per year and no other paid time off, and I had to work there for a year to get those 2 days. Also, my boss regularly made me skip lunch/breaks to get more done.

to

A state where they give me more paid time off than I can use, and I get to take it whenever I want. And you have to take a lunch or the company gets fined.

Guess which one is a red state full of "Don't Tread on Me" hicks and which is a blue state full of commie liberals.

Gonna pass. But I'm ecstatic over this and hope to hear the bardic tales of your free-time escapades

I've been there for 2 years and it's still good. I'm taking time off to go to MAGWest next month and can actually afford to do so because they also pay me double what job #1 was paying.

I get a lot of vacation and live in that same former state. The company you work for has more to do with that than the state.

I guess, but the labor laws are different out here. Overtime pay is calculated in a way that is better for the worker, you start accruing sick leave as soon as you start working, and they can't make you "use it or lose it." And the lunch break thing is definitely a state law not a company rule.

The lunch break thing is Arizona state law as well.

Did something change recently? Because I looked it up before I shot off my mouth. https://www.jdsupra....led-to-a-52670/

When I worked for the city, they required you to take one, but at a private company they did not have to give it to you. I know employers are welcome to have policies about breaks and PTO that are more generous that the law requires but a lot of them don't because they don't have to.

Here it is state by state:

I guess I was mistaken. Probably just thinking about the federal law which doesn't really seem to have a lunch break law anyways.

Speaking of vacation time, taking a vacation sure makes works stressful.
