I hate writing people up for shit, ugh. Especially when I have to have the same conversation with three different people about the same problem. Really not looking forward to the argument I will receive from the third person when I actually see them to give it to them.

I also had to partake in the termination meeting of an employee today. That felt like shit.

We have started doing a "morning huddle" at work. It's the latest "best practice" that our President is trotting out from some seminar he went to. The idea is fine: give employees information each day, do some stretching. What's really annoying is that these are MANDATORY, in the sense that you will be written up for not attending. Even if I'm in the middle of an in-depth meeting with a client, I'm to make them wait for 10 minutes while I go attend The Huddle.

Also stupid: we have a "war cry" at the end of each one, typically something corny and/or cringeworthy. The idea of it is cringeworthy on it's own: I'm in sales, motherfucker. This isn't a war. For fuck's sake.

Anyway, work is still fine. It's just annoying to be forced to participate in silly shit when I do an excellent job of staying on top of the latest by reading message boards and my email. But some people are too lazy to do that, so here we are.

Had a Flat Earther withhold me from helping other customers for 45 minutes.

His reasons for his beliefs were as such: Not understanding that "north" and "south" are not "up" and "down". Apparently the Nile flowing into the Mediterranean shouldn't be possible because north is "uphill". Furthermore, "If the planet is travelling at like 1000 km/h, and my airplane is only travelling at 600, then how would I ever reach Mexico from here? It would be continuously getting farther away!" As if velocity can't accumulate between objects carrying other objects. Clearly, when jumping off a moving train, you would just stop in place and be perfectly safe, as if you had been standing there the whole time.

I got commendations around the entire building for dealing with that customer.

You don't see me going to ice cream socials and not eating ice cream and socializing.

Joe, I’m sorry - I work in life & health insurance and I know that feeling. Most of the clients who pass away are from way back before my time, but at least two people I’ve worked with have passed, and it is difficult.

This feels petty by comparison, but I ducking tanked a call after two really good appointments today. I’ve been trying to get a hold of this guy for months since I’ve been helping his dad, he called at 4:45, and I was wholly unprepared. I don’t know why he agreed to talk to me again (or why I didn’t ask to get back to him). I just kept talking and talking.... it was painful.

The ducking was an autocorrect that I just went with.

Gave a write-up that I was more-or-less dreading to deliver, but to my relief he was reasonable, understanding, professional, and able to accept it with some valid talking points. My anxiety over having to deliver it has much abated, though I have another for someone else tomorrow that's more severe and... I'm super not looking forward to it.

Thanks man. I would honestly say that people shouldn't worry about what seems small or petty or whatever, life is hard and ugly. I'm just glad I can have any sort of role in any of these people's lives. I dunno, I'm sure I will have more to say later but it's just brutal seeing how life plays out

I got about 2x - 3x my normal workload of stuff and went into one of those hyperfocused states like on TV where you see the work montage and multiple shots with music playing over the main character. Finally emerged and I had no idea what time it was or how long I'd been at it.

Pretty much like this:

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

Former director of our center had strokes, almost died, is at home recovering. Emails me asking for software licenses later Friday afternoon. I sent him the licenses and instructed him which program to use. Sunday he emails my supervisor the email I sent him and says I need to be more helpful and that was stuck unable to work on the weekend. What an asshole!

Haha I'm curious to know who that is. Hopefully your supervisor is cool about it. Dealing with faculty and other higher ups with big chips on their shoulders is the worst.
