...and the novel "Brave New World". Both are pretty fun so far for entirely different reasons.

Just finished reading that one about 10 minutes ago. It's fairly quick read, but definitely quite a work.

Apart from that I spent the past couple of months reading through the first four books of A Game of Thrones. The first three were a lot of fun, but the series fell off a bit in the fourth book. I've heard that the fifth book is even worse, but haven't picked it up yet.

Most of the way through American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

It is really quite good, but at page 430 out of a little over 500, I really want it to get on with the plot and be over with soon.

I just finished reading Cormac McCarthy's Border Trilogy. Great books, but so dark. Makes me wish I knew a little more Spanish, but I figure I was able to understand most of the Spanish dialogue from cognates and context.

I was planning on reading Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale next but I feel like I need some light reading. A friend is lending me some Fables graphic novels so I'd better continue with them.

As I read I frequently attach post it's to pages with a quick note on a quote or idea the page had left me with. I haven't been able to focus on reading as I had been a few weeks ago and have made little progress with BNW and MF (see above post).

Tonight I wanted a more relaxed read to settle the mind and aid sleep. It is two hours later and the only reason I am putting this book down is so I can at least get 4 hours of sleep before work.

Tuesdays with Morrie

It has instilled the predatory-like instinct of insatiably devouring it. Ya know, with my eyes and brain-stuffs. If the reviews pique your curiosity I definitely recommend picking it up.

P.S. - It was also made into a film by the same name. Not a bad way to spend a 2 hours.

I doubt 9 inches would play much into a relationship, if at all.

Finished reading all 4 Ringworld novels. My short thoughts are:

Ringworld - Good
Ringworld Engineers - Better
Ringworld Throne - Pretty bad
Ringworld's Children - Made up for previous title

Now on to Accelerando based on Crimson's recommendation.

Be sure to read Children. Faster pace, easier to follow, and a way better conclusion.

I'm sure it's already been mentioned in this very thread, but seeing that I just completed reading it for the fourth time it must once again be recommended:

Andrew J. Robinson: A Stitch in Time

If you're a fan of Deep Space Nine, especially the character of "Garak" you'll really enjoy it. It's written by the man who played him and is really done well, without all of the "let's see how many times we can reference something that happened in an episode of the show" moments that most Trek books have. Too bad it's not in hardback, and too bad he hasn't written anything else. Man, I love this book.

I read "Children" maybe a year ago. Yesterday I picked up a couple more anthologies. One had Niven's short story, "Flatlander", which I've read several times over the years in various comps and it reminded me how much I really like his earlier stuff. I also scored a copy of the DAW version of "Elric of Melnibone", which I read about 30 years ago. Gonna see if it holds up. I'm sure it will. I had been waiting for a used copy specifically from DAW because of the nostalgic Michael Whelan cover art. Nobody does Elric like Whelan!

I've always favored Amano and Gould.

Elric is great though. I should reread it sometime as well.

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

I started reading Marcelo in the Real World last night (actually listening to the audio book while I work on cross stitch) and I'm hooked. I'd been meaning to read this for a long time. It's about a teenager with Asperger's whose father makes him work in the mail room at his law firm for a summer to get "real-world experience" he doesn't get in his special school.

Weener: a dyke for all seasons.

I came here to bump this thread as my friend is letting me borrow his Elric of Melnibone books, and to my surprise there is talk of Elric already here! Weird. I'm enjoying the first one, so far. I'm through "book one" inside of "Book One of the Elric Saga," which I find a confusing way to uh, handle... that. I'm reading them because my roleplaying group is starting a Stormbringer/Runequest II/Legend campaign, and all the Elric stuff looked really interesting.

I helped out in my school's library doing odd tasks. the librarians paid me in 4 boxes of sci fi/fantasy books that haven't been checked out for over 5 years. Its mostly 80's fantasy but I now have a new book case of old 60's and 70's sci fi/ fantasy. these covers are so fucking cool.
