The way I see it, retro graphics are nice because the resolution or physics or engine (if those are the right word) work well for platforming. It’s very predictable. When your sprite is only 8 pixels wide or whatever, and half of you is off a ledge, you know there are 4 pixels that you have to move forward and such.
I think a lot of stigma I have towards 3D platformers is that the characters and stuff don’t ‘snap’ and the whole game feels loose cus they aren’t locked to a grid like that.
Games with 3D graphics that have a solid game engine can be just as good. I think MM11 looks cute as fuck. Music sucks tho.
Really I just want every fucking game from now on to have hand drawn graphics like the new Winder Boy 3, and all of my favorite old games to get the same treatment. Shit looks so gooooooood. Super Metroid redone in the style of the instruction manual art with a soundtrack by Zombi
