i definitely have no knowledge of or advice for running, but next week i'm starting a new 12-week strength program that will also require 4 sessions a week, so if nothing else we can work to hold each other accountable to make sure we're getting in all our training.

Hell yeah, brah. I'll update this weekly with distances and times, maybe? You could with lift stuffs? Man, I haven't seriously lifted since 2014. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to do some preventative stuff for my joints. Strengthen my knee areas.

Well, I ran a 15K race (9.3 miles) yesterday. Came in at 1:20:56, or right about 8:29 per mile, with very negative splits. My goal was under 1:30, and I crushed it, apparently coming in second place. However, the weather was very kind--classic PNW spring day, 55 degrees and cloudy. If it had been 75 and sunny, I don't think I'd have done that well. The idea of a sub-2 hour half-marathon in August feels a lot more possible (if the weather is at least somewhat cooperative).

Set a significant new squat 1RM in Wendler last cycle, and matched it in the first week of a new cycle. I guess this is the new normal.

woo wee pulled a new beltless dead PR at 430 lbs this morning.

this was after failing at 455 a few times (got it up to my knees!).

after that a dude at the gym was real revv'd up & enthusiastic and wanted me to try 445. i failed on it 3 times.

i guess i should probably start getting used to wearing my belt on all my lifts so i can get juiced up for the meet, but maaannnn i hate how it feels on deads lately.

I squatted 380 on a machine last night (all the weights on the machine), don't know how that translates to the real world though.

fuck yeah. it's great to see everyone killing it. Mig I'm so excited about your meet. good luck training for it! and M-H congrats on the kick ass 15k time. And fuck yeah John. I never squatted on a machine so I don't know how different that is from a free squat bar but that's still a heavy squat and impressive as fuck

I've been slacking on the gym/lifting because my schedule has been fucked and I've been emotionally exhausted after work and not making the trek to my gym but I'm trying to figure out a new way to schedule it. I started Muay Thai in March and have been getting more and more consistent with it each month. I've started trying to go Mondays and Tuesdays and it's the most strenuous physical activity I've ever done but it's also incredibly fun and has made lifting less appealing (which sucks.) They do have bars and weights and racks there that usually aren't in use so I might just start lifting there before or after classes or sign up for the Olympic Weight Lifting class they have there so I can do more than just 5x5 and do lifts that are designed to help with Muay Thai specifically. I also need to start running regularly to get my stamina and cardio up to snuff. Each class starts with a warm up of 3 minutes of jump rope, 10 push ups, 10 sit ups, 10 squats then repeating that for one more round. it sucked at first but now I finally don't feel like death after it. One day, a different instructor lead the warm up and had us jump rope for 5 minutes, and told us to do pushups for like 30 seconds and hold it at the top of the push up or at the bottom of it depending on what he called out then keep doing push ups until he had us finish the jump rope for the 5 minutes. Then we did another round of that with squats instead of push ups and it suuuuuuucked. I thought squats would be easier because I like squats, but he had us hold it at the bottom for like 30 seconds at one point and my legs started burning so bad. So tonight after work I'm gonna try to get to my gym and do some lower weigh, higher rep pause squats. I'm also trying to jump rope every day. it's weird trying to balance all of these different exercises...especially when I hurt my knee or a hip joint doing kicks on bags or sparring.

Been trying to hit up my office gym 3 days a week. I think I have done so the past 4 weeks except the week of Memorial Day (which was fine because I did a bunch of yard work that weekend so I'll count that as a workout, sure), and tomorrow I may have jury duty. My measure for success is so low right now, if I go and do the most minimal amount of exercise, I count it as a win, because in the battle of perfection vs nothing, nothing will win for me.

Mostly been trying to put together some "full body" workout baloney with the limited equipment I have available at the office gym. It's been working out pretty well and I'm tweaking things here and there as I go along. I don't know what I'm doing but I work for a college that has a kinesiology program and stuff and meet with some of those faculty regularly so really I should be mining them for info.

after hitting 31 pounds lost in early january, i started slacking a bit and gained back 10 of it, so on may 1st i started counting calories/ carbs again and quickly lost 5 of it again only to totally plateau. so im still trying but not totally focused on it since i love to eat, overall though i am still 20+ pounds lighter than 2018

This is a VERY healthy attitude to have, and a good one to keep. I've been not great about going to the gym lately, but my partner and I have been doing on long walks 3/4 nights a week and get a few miles in.

I started having to hit the gym before work again because the season is picking up and I'm exhausted and unmotivated by the time I get out, thus gymming it is a struggle. I enjoy that it's quieter in the mornings also and there's less likelihood I have to actually interact with anyone or fight for space in the freeweight area. (Just going to be a little more reliant on coffee to get me through the work day than normal, bleh.)

Going to try to go harder again with my routines for the summer....because muscle definition doesn't show as well on a super-whitey like me. <_<

I'm imagining Ellis writing the script to this at a computer, and every time he gets to the end of a line about religion being bad he smacks his fedora to tip it, making the sounds of a typewriter being reset.

that is how I always look at it. one days where I feel like shit and have to force myself to go to the gym, even if I don't do well at the workout or don't do as much as I was hoping to do there I always count it as a win because it's more than sitting at home.

Long night walks with a partner is great too. I've been living that life the past week now and it's been great.

And I relate hard to being a super whitey and not having muscle definition show much. I was looking around as everyone was jumping rope at muay thai and was disgusted by how pale I was, especially in comparison...I'm trying to spend some time in the sun every day as well now since I work from home and can step out periodically throughout the day. Also that's just been helpful for my overall mental health. Praise the sun!

Just do as I do and always stand with light sources behind and offset from you. Makes it tricky to read, though.
