(we can have one)

I really need to get better at bass. I'm pretty good already, but I want to be ultra good. I know there a few bassists around here.

One thing I really want lately is more right hand speed. I'm talking jsut pure speed on one notes. Right now, reliably, I have 16th notes at about 120 bpm. I started trying to use 3 fingers on my right hand lately. So far it's not as fast as my 2 finger techniue but it's slowly improving.

I'm not having any luck searching for videos of super fast right hand finger speed, anyone know of any?

I've been playing bass for 6 years.
I'm still not very good.

Maybe I should sit down and try to learn some funk bass.

I got to jam with Jesse over the weekend. He has amazing bass playing ability. When I play bass, you can tell it's a guitar player playing a bass, but Jesse is a true bass player.

I should move over there some day and start a band with him.

I think my biggest prblem is I can't do "cool" stuff like slapping, ghost notes and just everything that makes bassists funnky and cool. Heat man, Bubble Man, Metal man, Dr WIly, CV level 5, no problem, but put me in a "jam session" and I look like a n00b.

Tributes to bass!

I also wish I were much better at bass. I really suck at Jazz Bass (IMO), but I would say I'm fairly decent at Pop/Rock/Metal...etc. I want to build my harmonic skills, and learn more ways to creatively fill between sections.

I wish I was playing bass right now... but I have a huge project due Thursday night, that I'm working on (and chatting with a girl I just met who likes me).

I've been playing bass on and off for years but I'm horrible. Luckily I'm left-handed so when someone hands me a guitar or bass I flip it upside down and play something simple and they're all wowed that I can do that. haha!

I made one of my goals this winter break to play more bass. I think tomorrow I will throw in a couple hours of practice... thanks for making this thread pingo!

120 is comfortable and very uniform. I can play at 125, but it fatigues my fingers quickly. I can't even keep time at 130.

I'm slowly working on develop a four-finger technique, but I don't practice it enough. I can play straight 16ths using four fingers at about 80 bpms.

I wanna know how fast it's possible to play with 2 and 3 fingers. I was searching on the internet but I couldn't find any info.

I'm gonna try to learn the whole Iron Maiden album Number of the Beast.

Great album. Actually I prefer Dream Theater's cover of the entire album. They don't sell it, but you can probably download a copy somewhere.

Right hand techique? I gots some tips but they are totally reliant on wether or not you play with your fingers or not.

With a pick it's pretty much just tremolo picking some fast stuff, but I don't recommend that. I say one of two options will help you out better.

1) Play with three fingers. Start slow at first and then you should be able to spam sixteenth notes at 200 BPM ala Dragonforce with no problem.

2) Train two fingers to be able to play fast. There is no technique really, just working out your fingers and ensuring that you play clean, if you lose low end due to your speed, you may have poor right hand technique.

That is this bassists advice. Take it as you will. Billy Sheenen is good for three fingered and Victor Wooten is just amazing.

I haven't played my bass in a while now. Pretty sad.
I use 2 fingers. For some reason 3 just doesn't happen when I try.
Albums I first learned to cover in entirety include Iron Maiden's Killers and a couple of older Chili Peppers stuff. Good starting material.
