of course i know who dave witte is, I'm actually on the next upcoming Discordane Axis CD, I did a bunch of their songs in MIDI format and made them into remixes and such with Reason 2.0.  I'm good friends with Jon, the singer, that's how I know a lot of Japanese grind and such. ^_^  check out the band I play drums for since u're into underground metal:

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

Hey, kinda new hear. long time reader, first time poster.

YUP. well not j rock. but J metal.

I like the bands X (buddy of mines band, maybe you heard of them. they later went by X Japan(but X Japan was total weaksauce compared to X) ) Sabbat, GARGOYLE, AION, Rosenfeld, Mephistopheles, Eraserhead, Dementia, Casbah, Jurassic Jade, Sacrifice, Salem, Vathokija, Deathfile, Etc. A lot of the bands have guitar solos that remind me of old nintendo music. I especially reccomend you old school nintendo music fans to check out GARGOYLE. their guitarist, SHEJA, sounds like he would have been nintendos main composer. best guitarist EEEEEEVER! :D

Not too big on bands like Dir En Grey, but METALUCIFER rules! I just ordered some more of their records from their singer/bassist. Got to see them live in Japan and it was great.

if you wanna hear some cool stuff, drop me an AIM at WING Matsunaga.

later

A J-rock/metal present for the shizz:

Jikuu Kaizoku SEVEN SEAS - DREAMS
This is an awesome Pirate-themed Power Metal band. Sorta like X-Japan. If you love Iron Maiden / Minibosses / videogame harmonies, epic music in general, and the like, get this!! Here's what they look like

ENJOY! :)

HIZAKI grace project - Dignity of crest [192kbps.2007.01.01]
More Japanese Power Metal. This stuff is really baroque. I love it. It sounds like a combination of Sigh and Malice Mizer.

I used to listen to alot of japanese music when in highschool...

I really liked older rock bands like Wands, Field of View, etc.. But I listened to a bunch of others too.

I've always been really into B'z. Great music. It's guitarist, Tak Matsumoto is awesome, great heart felt solos, awesome riffs and superb tone.

Lately I haven't been listening to much of any japanese music.

I'm really into a couple of japanese guitarists...
The aforementioned She-Ja (Ex-Animetal, Gargoyle) is a master musically he's amazing and pure metal, Norifumi Shima (Concerto Moon), Katsu Ohta (Ark Storm), Kelly Simmonz ('s Blind Faith), Syu (Galneryus, current Animetal)

Here's Katsu playing Time Fuse , form a Young Guitar mag DVD. I love this song.
