More random thoughts:
Yea I can do Alpha 2. I just never got around to being really good at it.
I'll admit I'm a Ken user in SF II, which is kind of lame. But I will play Guile every so often. I still think I'm pretty predictable.
Hey I'll go ahead and mention Last Blade. That game is badass, but I totally suck at it.
I always wanted to get into Guilty Gear, but I failed pretty badly at that. At least the music is nice.
Soul Calibur! Pretty awesome for its time, but I kind of grew out of it. I'd play people in 2 if they wanted to, though.

I love fighting games but I am way more casual than pro at them.

SF III 3rd Strike is my favorite, by far. The graphics are beautiful and they match the gameplay so perfectly.

MvC2 is really fun, but I'm so hit or miss at it.

The only 3D fighter I really like is the Soul Calibur series. DoA is fun, but I can only take so much. I absolutely HATE Tekken with a passion. Too stiff, doesn't actually feel like fighting.

Here's a question: which more realistically portrays the art of fighting: 2D or 3D fighting games?

Soul Calibur 2.

Awesome flow, loads of characters, radd music, pleasant graphics and a shitload of game modes. Every character feels unique and the game is always fun. Plus: Tight controls.

My favorite fighter ever is CVS2. I also really like KOF 2002 and 2003. Mark of the Wolves and Last Blade are also high on my list.

My favorites are MvC2, Guilty Gear and Killer Instinct. I am actually halfway decent at MvC2; its only as much of a button masher as you make it, like merc said. I like Guilty Gear and KI's combo systems more than anything. I used to play Tekken 2 a lot back in the day, but I remember the learning curve and the horrible, stiff, counter-y, delay ridden fighting style making me want to rip someone's throat out. The Tekken series has by far the most annoying fighting system in of any of the mainstream titles.

I won't lie, I'm not a huge fan of anything Street Fighter. I am consistently crap at every game in the series and I always thought the move-sets and inputs were horrible.

What a silly question!
I don't think it can get any more real than the Virtua Fighter series. I own 4, but it's wayyy too hardcore for me to get any good at.

Super Smash Bros. Melee.

What an amazing game! It's extremely easy to learn, but like all the great games, incredibly difficult to master. The replay value in the game is just bewildering, and the varied characters always add variety to the matches. It also has a relatively different approach to the genre, with the characters damage meters rising in percentage until they are knocked off-stage.

The single player is good, but it's the multiplayer that makes this game awesome. It doesn't have online play (BRING IT ON BRAWL!!!) but the endless stock-matches with friends are some of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.

The only thing I question about this game though is would it be as good without the Nintendo characters?

My favorite fighting games are Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Soul Calibur and Soul Calibur 2. I love those games but I definitely spent my fair share of time on MKII and the KI series.

I really wanted to play Samurai Shodown II but I've never seen it in my local arcades, never had a Neo Geo and I could never get it to work on my MAME emulator. :( Perhaps it'll one day be available to download on the Virtual Console.

Has anyone played Eternal Champions? I have the Sega CD version and it's a bit tough to get into. I really love the characters, the outlandish fatalities and the backgrounds. Considering what system it was on at the time, it had some nice graphics. I'd love to see a sequel or an updated version of this game some day.

Brawl is to be online.

SSB Melee is the game I had played the most (in terms of hours, we're talking alot here, my and my pals must have done like 20 000 matches in multiplayer, and I'm not kidding), it holds a special place in my heart.

Whats sucks alot is that the arcade scene isn't really here. And people are mostly retard. So fighting games and shoot'em ups don't get alot of fans here. So I couldn't live on my fighting game love to it's fullest. So sad :(

I must say, KI, KI: Gold , Street Fighter 3: 3rd strike, Guilty Gear XX, Dragonball Budokai Tenkaichi 2(can't wait for 3rd one) all take a big place in my gaming life. I also had a good rivalry with a pal of mine in Bloody Roar 3 (fuck yes).
Few others I feel worth mentioning are Powerstone 1-2, Bio Freaks, Bushido Blade 2, One Must Fall 2097.

I'm still pretty open to some games, I really like mid-quality fighting games like Plasma Sword, and Psychi Force 2012

With all that said, let's not forget one of the pioneers. Urban Champion.

Oh , and I forgot, the brutal WEAPON LORD ! And may no one dare mention Rise Of The Robots. Except it's title music :D

Try button mashing MvC2 against anyone with half a clue and I can guarantee a fresh serving of your own ass handed to you on a platter.

I like all fighting games, but the only one I'm any good at is Street Fighter III: Third Strike, and I'm passable at Marvel vs Capcom (first one) but I gave up on it since I ran into too many infinite abusing cuntwads on Kaillera.

All-time favourites are probably Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Street Fighter Alpha 3, King of Fighters 98 and Guilty Gear (for the soundtrack alone).

ps Honourable mentions: Vampire Saviour and Garou MOTW.
