First time I went to my friend's house and he had Keith Courage on, that opening fanfare, holy SHIT, all I was used to was NES, and now this out of nowhere, it was like the living room opened up and a massive wall of sound and vibrant colors slammed into us.
The Bonk series, an awesome version of Raiden Trad (just "Raiden" on TG16) and the TG16-CD version of Snatcher are all just phenomenal games.

I think that the only way you're going to nail a 10 (or 11) girl is if you have millions of dollars, a non maniac mansion, a bichon frise with a bow on it's head, a yacht, and multiple fast cars! i'm so sorry :/

TG-16 mainly had a lot of ports. Parodius, Gradius, Salamander, Raiden, Ninja Spirit, Shinobi, Turrican.... TG-16 had that one cool FM channel which you can emulate fairly well on a Game Boy (with Nanoloop.) Anyone got any other info on that sound chip? It's a pretty obscure one.

Sadly, my Duo-R gave up the ghost a couple of years ago, so I use this for everything these days. It's an excellent emulator. Enjoy!
I know there are lots of Life Force fans here, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the PCE version of Salamander. I personally think it outshines both the arcade and NES games.
Raiden Trad (just "Raiden" on TG16)
The main series is just "Raiden", matey. That Trad game was a terrible conversion!
On a related note, I think Raiden IV is going to be released on XBLA. I imagine it's also being released in arcades, but the idea of a new shmup going "straight-to-download" is pretty awesome!

What are some really good games I should check out, aside from the ones already mentioned?
Air Zonk is a really fun, goofy game with my favorite TG-16 soundtrack. Really epic stuff. I think it's supposed to be Bonk in the future. Good stuff.

Also, is there one for Keith Courage? ... since it's the ONLY other game I have.
Splatterhouse arcade is better/harder than the TG-16 one.
I have the arcade soundtrack on CD. I found it online years ago... now I will have to find the CD...
Cide Projekt - dancey type stuff.

That said, I do remember the game being ridiculously hard, so even with the deaths, it's pretty impressive.
ALSO: ...that's it? Roll credits and "end"? Wow.

Although much easier than the arcade I still died a few places.. theres a harder difficulty code on the PCE/turbo grafx-16.That Splatterhouse "speed run" isn't a speed run at all--there's clearly a few deaths edited out (The video info even says he died, but you'll note the deaths aren't in the video itself).

Somewhere in this I had to pause for split second cause a mosquito flew up close to my face!!
I laughed so hard about the pause ordeal
Splatterhouse ARCADE Speedrun
Watch the arcade version, it's much better!!!!!!!

Dave posting reminded me: Somer Assault, where you play as a sentient accordion who can cling to walls and ceilings and shoot bullets, fighting against zodiac symbols!!!! Holy shit I loved playing that game while baked.
Boglin: The sound chip works like Konami's SCC chip for the MSX -- 32-step "draw your own waveform" channels. SCC had 5 voices while TG16 had 6, and two of the channels could combine into an FM voice. The Gameboy channel 3 emulation is of the normal TG16 voices, not so much the FM, but you're right, same principle. It's also possible to continuously load the table with a sequential waveform, i.e. play digital sounds, useful for drums and digitized sfx. (Bonk games had awesome sampled latin percussion)
If you want to mess around with the same sort of sounds, here's a free synthesizer plugin that rules: Chip32.

TG16 is my favorite sounding chiptune platform by far (and with MML / HuSIC available for it, it should be yours too) -- splatterhouse is one of the best soundtracks in gaming history. It's so demented and perfect.

Hell yeah dude, TG-16 has THE greatest sounding music, even better than the NES.
I'm really glad that these games are getting a second life on the Virtual Console because I always wanted to play them back in the day, especially Bonk.
Right on. Almost all of my VC games are TG-16 games.
