I'm feeling small. Somebody make a gif that zooms in from people down to atoms, down to quarks.

Haven't you seen Powers of 10 on youtube? That doesn't go to quarks, though.

I really like thinking about stuff like this. Thats why when I got a free trial of Eve Online recently, rather than try to skill up or kill pirates, I spent the whole time just flying around their universe gazing at the different systems.

I dunno what it is, but I really like referring to things in the roman numeral context, Star Trek style. It just makes everything seem futuristic. Like calling Earth Solar III, and Saturn is Solar VI.

God damn I want my own spaceship.

Ditto'd.

If you understood the magnitude of space and the limitations of physics you wouldn't want one. Going anywhere is like trying to circumnavigate the globe on a rubber duckie like 11 times.

Clearly you haven't been out in a ship with an FTL drive.

I was talking to a girl about stars last night, and looking at them. She mentioned an astronomy course at PCC that I really wanna take now, as well as the forestry class. I think it is very good to be able to orient yourself with the stars and the sun. You don't need to wonder which direction you're facing.

Stand in the place where you live
Now face north
Think about direction
Wonder why you havent before
Now stand in the place where you work
Now face west
Think about the place where you live
Wonder why you havent before

If you are confused check with the sun
Carry a compass to help you along
Your feet are going to be on the ground
Your head is there to move you around

Your feet are going to be on the ground
Your head is there to move you around
If wishes were trees the trees would be falling
Listen to reason
Season is calling

If wishes were trees the trees would be falling
Listen to reason
Reason is calling
Your feet are going to be on the ground
Your head is there to move you around

So stand (stand)
Now face north
Think about direction, wonder why you havent before
Now stand (stand)
Now face west
Think about the place where you live
Wonder why you havent

Stand in the place where you are (now face north)
Stand in the place where you are (now face west)
Your feet are going to be on the ground (stand in the place where you are)
Your head is there to move you around, so stand.

I bet you were secretly involved in the writing of that song...

Those of you into astronomy AND homebrew on the DS (a rare combo?) should check this out:

http://will0thewisp....ationsDS0.8.rar

It's a little reference guide to the stars. Pretty sweet.

I made a program that plotted all the stars within ~90 light years in 3d space.[/nerd]
