A few people expressed interest in this in 11:60 but I forgot about it until now, so here we go. I should have started this thread a few days ago so people could prepare, but oh well, too late. Face the music.

Been feeling down about yourself? Need to work out? Got some vices you'd like to cut back on? Harden the fuck up. Try to be as specific as possible about your goals or else you probably ain't gonna stick by 'em.

"Exercise every day doing X routine for 20 minutes" is better than "Exercise more." If you don't know where to start, I suggest "My System" by J. P. Muller. Also available on archive.org if you want a fancier interface. I haven't tried this, but I plan to. I suggest it because Muller is one hard motherfucker. The first chapter is called "Why be weakly?" And the second chapter? "Illness is generally one's own fault." This dude knows a thing or two about hardening the fuck up.

If you plan on quitting or cutting back on vices like smoking or drinking, feel free to keep a log of your thoughts and progress. We'll help you keep straight.

So here's my personal list that I might edit later, and I'm keeping some stuff vague for the forum, but specific for me.

1. Exercise every day. Muller system or just talking a walk, just do something that gets me off my ass.
2. Write something every day. Reviews, opinion pieces, anything, just fuckin' write something.
3. Cut back on vices. Drinking is no problemo. It's the other stuff I'm worried about. I have a plan for this, just keeping it private.
4. Continue waking up earlier. I'm sick of waking up at 10 or 11am as I have become wont to do. I keep trying to set my alarm but the desire to sleep has been winning over my willpower. Today is a good start though, I got up at 8.
5. Eat waaaay less fast food. I eat too much. Yesterday I ate McDonald's for breakfast and for dinner. Fuck that.
6. Watch less TV. Last evening around 5pm I got bored. So I started watching TV. Then my roommate came home at 6:30 and we both watched TV. Until 1am. Fuuuuuuck that. Lame as hell. I don't mind if I'm watching stuff like The Daily Show or Conan (since Tim & Eric were on last night), but did I really need to watch 2 hours of Intervention or stare at Anthony Bourdain eating exotic foods? No sir.
7. Keep myself from getting bored. This goes along with the TV thing. When you don't have a job, and lack willpower, it's really easy to get bored and spend hours and hours in front of the boob tube or wasting time on the Internets. Fuck this x1000. I have plenty of books and comics to read or games to play or guitars to practice, but instead I spend most of my time wasting it. Hell of lame.

Good luck to anyone who decides to take part. Wait, there's no luck here. Just pure willpower.

Awesome. I've been getting more exercise and eating super-healthily of late anyway. This'll be a productive month indeed if I keep my boozefiend tendencies in check, which has also been going alright thus far. The only hard target I'll need there is "put it down, dickhead".

"My System" is a superb read. :P

FUCK YEAH

I have a workout routine that I've fallen off of because of my new dog. Now that he's not shitting on the floor anymore, I can get back into it, plus I'm adding barefoot running twice a week to it.

I've made a New Years resolution to drink MOAR not less for a last few years. This year is no different.

I'm cooking more meals from scratch now and I plan to do better. More leafy vegetables and stalks and more fruits. I need to do this more in a way that I can bring stuff to work to eat. Maybe I'll bump the cooking thread to talk about this.

I want to learn more stuff every day. This is a bit nebulous. Maybe I'll write my plans later.

As I grow older, I feel like I've wasted too much time. I try to take comfort in thinking that, from now on, if I waste not, I'll want not.

this year i have a few trials that await me.
it might be too early for the need to harden the fuck up about them yet.
like i want to get a certification but i dont want that to get in the way of my main goal which is to make an album.
i have a lot of work to do before an album appears but i also would like a better job so my life has less stress.
i guess i would have to harden the fuck up in order to do classes and music because music takes so much effort for me and i hate homework so much. i guess i could do school half ass just to break the 7 year frost on me and learning.

am i doing this right?

first of all, funky fm music just really does it for me.  Even if it's something corny like early mariah carey I can get way into the music with the fm bass and keys going on.   Then, there's everything else in this song.  The enigmatic title.  The synth programming brings out all the right emotional responses in me:  leads that remind me of thunderforce (even if the portamento isn't quite as exaggerated), chording synths that remind me of very old and charming genesis osts like super monaco (except somehow they don't sound as flimsy here), and of course a solid bass.  Great original motifs, interesting harmonies, good melody, rhythm.. everything that can make a song great is here!

Yeah dude. You don't have to commit to finishing an album, getting certs, and getting a better job all in one month. But if you can figure out ways to get yourself on track and not just think "I'll do it later...", then you are well on your way to hardening the fuck up.

I've been thinking about this kind of stuff lately. Mainly because of some stuff that happened WAY in the past (over a decade ago).

So, i have decided to be a better person. Overall, i want to be a better person. Not be a badass mofo or anything like that, just me, but better.

I started eating more healthy, again. My current diet is basically white or brown rice + chicken breasts on almost all meals and bananas in between, loads of water (i usually drink about 2 litres a day anyway). So far so good.

I wanted to start reading more, so today, before getting here at work, i bought a book, The Conquerors by Jules Verne, mostly because it tells the history of Cortez the Killer, and since i like the song, i thought, why not ?

And since my usual go-to gym is closed for repairs this month, i need to start exercising at home, so far, i have done nothing, but i plan on starting today. Push-ups, Abs, and some resistance training (i have one of those resistance bands for exercising).

And one that might sound stupid, but it's important to me, is be honest. I have this "deer in headlights" personality, and sometimes, i agree with stuff just because i wasn't expecting it to be asked that question. Like, if someone out of the blue says : "want to grab a drink after work?" my reflex is to say "sure", even if what i really want is to go home and rest or do music or whatever.

So :

- Eat healthy : Doing good. All weekedays for the last 2 weeks.
- Read More : Will start on Jules Verne today on commute home. (I have almost 2 hours commute per day)
- Exercise : Will start on resistance band tonight.
- Be Honest : This week, it's still going on.

Let's see how that goes.

I support the hell out of this thread.

Discipline will change you for the better, guaranteed. Even something as simple as going to the gym, and getting into a regular routine, will change almost every aspect of your life. I lift weights four days a week and it's gone from being something I had to do, to being something I can't live without. Harden The Fuck Up and you'll be glad you did.

Done. I was just think that I really need to step up my game when it comes to this whole life thing.

I really need to step it up at work so they'll consider me for a promotion.

I've been doing pretty decent about working out. Just pushups every other day, but I've been feeling a lot better because of it.

So those are my two focuses to start.
