It seems to be more of a "cop chases robber in futuristic setting" kind of thing, rather than focus on the more intellectual aspects of a world where consciousness is digitized.

Have you read the book at all? I'm surprised they go into the changing of humanity at all, as it was pretty much taken for granted in the book. Cop chases robber was the part I was hoping they wouldn't fuck up.
The sex in the books was very explicit. I can't imagine they'll go into that with nearly the same force/meaning, but I hope to crack open the first episode tonight, so I guess I'll just have to see.

As for the impact of stack technology on humanity, the show opens with making it clear how painful it can be to be re-sleeved into a body that's not appropriate. But it later shows how, for some people, that doesn't matter. There are whole scenes surrounding Ortega, her religious family, and how stack technology goes against God. Then they also make it a point to just how scary the thought of being dead dead is.
