One vs. Many! Yes, it's a little complicated, pay attention.

"One" means any game where the player or players control one character at a time (even if you rotate between multiple characters). AI tagalongs or assistant/puppet characters like Yoshi/Rush don't count as player-controlled.
Includes: Mario 1/2/3/World/etc., Metroid, Mega Man 5, Star Fox, Illusion of Gaia, Portal, Kirby's Adventure, Castlevania 3, Resident Evil 4.

"Many" means any game where the player or players can control multiple characters at a time (competing or cooperating).
Includes: Final Fantasy, Street Fighter 2, Doom, Final Fight, Portal 2, Contra 3, Super Smash TV, Secret of Mana.

We can discuss/argue about the definitions if you want to get everything narrowed down and spelled out.

Games like Tetris, where the player does not control any characters, are invalid.

Yes, this is kind of weird and complicated, but isn't the name "One vs. Many" cool? That's a good enough reason, right?

I'll retag the songs tonight and finish updating the site tomorrow night.

And yes, the art was done by FoxDragon. While he was sick, even!

Hopefully this doesn't count as a double post and merges the two. . .

For the curious, this is my source material.

Single-Player vs. Multiplayer, then ? (seems like the best way to sum it up)

Also, thanks for all the reviews and votes. Most of you were spot on with my song. The heavy part came out.. muddier than i thought. Akira Yamaoka and his open chords, so yeah.

And i don't have any idea on what game to do, fantastic.

Not quite. Multiplayer is a big chunk of "many" but it also includes games where you control multi-character parties like a lot of RPGs.

fighting games versus side scrollers sounds interesting. but, hmmmm.

wow, this theme. You see, the point of a versus month was to pick a side and root for one or the other. With this type of versus theme, it's hard to pick sides and pull for something. the excitement is lost because there is no clear definition of the sides. bummer.

so, I guess I'll have to create my imaginary sides, like:

fighting games versus side scrollers
rpg's vs flight sims

what were you smoking when you created this theme

Is it time for me to make a return to DoD with some below average entries?

Just kidding, carry on.

so, if the racing game only has a 1 player mode, then it counts as a "one"
and if the racing game has a 2 or more player mode, whether through network or locally, it counts as a "many"

right?

remember the sega saturn netlink? ummmm. never mind.
so, if there's any multiplayer option at all, then it counts as a "many". even if you have to purchase a sega saturn netlink with the game. right?

whew, this theme.

::jumps up and down:: I TOLD YOU THIS WOULD BE CONFUSING!

*ahem*

I already told him, but I loved ScaredSim's Okami track to death. The other was very good too, but it just repeated itself so I lost interest in that one by comparison. shame too, because it was beautiful playing.

Biggest surprise for me on this list is Brandon Strader and REXY? I hear no Piano, is she on violin/fiddle or something like that? Awesome job, you two. That was one of the most different DoD entries ever.

Across the board I did not know hardly any of the scource material songs for this month, but like I said before.. I enjoyed all of them. :)

So uh. good luck with THIS month, now.

Well thank you very much good sir. Rexy made the arrangement and sent me a MIDI, then I assigned VSTs to those midis, adjusted velocities on them, recorded bass / acoustic guitar / lead and solo geetarras, mixed and mastered it, rawr.. she deserves all the credit for the song being good though

Nate, you weren't kidding. You tried to explain this to me and I just kind of thought it would make sense once it actually came around.

Nope.
