so, this originally sprouted in 11:60, but after questioning and a Google site search came up with nothing, i had to make a thread about this. it may kind of overlap with a couple of other threads, most notably the Let thread, but i think this genre deserves its own bullet point here.

i had never heard of Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark until this normal song vs chiptune came out regarding one of their songs versus a song from the Japanese 1988 Famicom American presidential race game.

joke? probably, consider it is a song based on a plane that nuked the country that the game was made in. but it opened my mind to a genre that i never knew existed; or at least, never new existed so early and so catchy in recent musical history. to be clear, the song used came out in 1980.

[please ignore stupid video i had to use because the official one wouldn't embed]

as i listen to more and more of OMD, i get increasingly obsessed. i'd post more in this thread if i could post more than 2 Youtube videos, but alas, i cannot.

i'm sure they were not entirely unique in their sound or style. but what other musical acts were/are similar that you enjoy?

Thread approved!

Not necessarily the exact same template as OMD, but super bad ass and crazy catchy Synthpop all the same. I'd kind of say it's more like Michael Jackson with less funk, and more jazz, played with some great synths.

andy clark - communications (1979)

sort of the cutting edge of synthpop if you wanna call it that. definately for fans of chromelodeon.

also, heres andy clark playing in the rah band, wearing a garbage bag. ahah.

Garbage bag and a ninja mask. Classy tune :)

I've posted this before, but it really should have been in this thread all a long. Stand up drummers should make a big come back, starting now.

Don't let the rainbows fade to gray. My sensuality has taken hold on me, and love is the answer.

andy clark - synthesis 2

seriously get ready to soil yourself when you hear this one. boards of canada meets chromelodeon styles.

the album "synthesis 2" by andy clark, released on label KPM in 1980, was added to my music library in may 2011. if you'd like to hear a quick cut, check this youtube.

if this is too old for this thread and breaks the thread too bad we're taking it over from new wave

Oh my gooood, this Andy Clark album. THANKS, SHAWN!!

5 or 6 albums worth of andy clark here (adding more as i go, its tough though :( ill get it all one day tho)

now uploading doris norton shit to this dir, startin with the 'nortoncomputerforpeace lp from 1983

this shit is serious next level to me. i think doris norton was the first person endorsed by apple way, way back in the way. this stuff is like synth mixed with, who the fuck knows what. i wish i coulda been around back then. top serious awesomeness.

this thread has caused me to seriously start mining on this shit, im getting so much that i cant post it all in this thread, only what i can get reuploaded so just keep an eye here for more.

klepperderep @ youtube

this guy's got a ton of great shit on his page, i pasted this on facebook but check it out here.
