I feel sorry for the Irene above, but the one that's hitting the East Coast can get the heck out.

I live right next to a river, and the whole area's been evacuated. There's a dam about 20 miles away that might compromise, which would pretty much destroy half my town (including my house). Doubt that will happen though, I think the media and everyone is probably overreacting.

I just want to take this minute to tell everyone IF A STOP LIGHT IS OUT, TREAT IT LIKE A GODDAMN STOP SIGN. DO NOT BLOW THROUGH IT.

This is some shit

That's kind of dumb. Let them raft if they want. I remember way back when I live in a Chicago suburb and the streets flooded, we all went around our neighborhood in a canoe an it was awesome.

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

Well, in my defense I had just watched some network news coverage and you know how insufferable they can be what with trying to milk a disaster for dramatic effect.

Well, they still are. I appreciate the caution and alerts/government (not news) coverage especially in light of Katrina.

I was just a little gear grinded because even my parents (about 300 miles away in western PA), when I called them last night when we had 3 tornado warnings in Philly said, "Well, it isn't raining here!!" Along with a week of hearing it on Facebook and elsewhere with the earthquake as well. No harm meant.

It was my bad... I was just trying to be funny, but there's nothing funny about a hurricane.even a small one.

Hurricane never got bad out by me. I live about 5-10 minutes from the barrier island in my area, but only a couple down trees. Tree in my backyard lost a couple large branches. My windows were open all night long though. Power went out from about 2 a.m. for about 12 or so hours. It was mostly wind.

Over by work though all the traffic lights are out and it's a pain to get in and out of the base because most points of entry are coned off. Not fun.

Hurricane Irene may have never been a hurricane at all.

Well, fuck.

Good news is that I now know I can fit my whole life in my car. Bad news is that, despite the Gilboa Dam holding together, we still got enough water to break a 97 (I think) year flood record. My house is partially under water right now and I can't even get to it because of so many blockades around town. Currently couch surfing with various friends for probably a week or two.
