I didn't cup the mic, I leaned towards the table, used a MXL991 on a 1-foot stand, and tried to aim just far enough away from the mic that I didn't hit it with any air while staring upwards above my glasses to read the lyrics off a webpage. No cupping involved, but I'm kinda flattered you thought so
