I tried again last night and successfully got to the monolith.
I even got the Sword of Destruction on the way.
Things will be very tricky from here on out, though.
It doesn't look like there is anyone at the monolith who can revive me if I die.

I got so excited when I first read about Dragon Quest X. Then I read "MMORPG" and "Wii" shortly after it. :(

This was the most general Dragon Quest topic that came up in a google search, so.

I'm replaying Dragon Warrior 7.  I got past the 'no battles just wander around like an idiot' intro, now I'm doing good stuff.

I just beat the MechSoldiers in one of the past worlds.  This is ultimately a cool game, even if it's a bit long.  Looking forward to all the job system fuckery, even if there are too many damn jobs.

IIRC at least some of these scenarios are from previous DW/DQ games?  But I don't recognize any of them.  The only DQ games fresh in my mind are 6, 8, and 9 so IDK.

I played this game A LOT back in 2008's summer break, totaling 230 hours. I think I was close to beating the game, but I had to stop to attend school stuff. Needless to say, when I resumed my game (like 2 months after I last played), I had forgotten many things. That pissed me off and decided to start all over again, but after I had beaten DQ5 and DQ6 (I hadn't beaten those games at that moment, only DQ1 to 4 and 8). Of course, I just beat 5 next year (2009), then I started a job and never played an RPG again. So I have yet to beat 6, then 7. So yeah, I played 230 hours for nothing (almost all those hours were spent talking to EVERYONE, several times through the game cause you know, every time you beat a chapter or pass a key point in the game, everyone has to say something different according to such events).

I think is a good game, but the presentation could be a little better.

Kain, only you can mention your mother's death and your new awesome MMX NES rom hack in one post... so condolences :( and high five :o

There's a big difference between a show being good and a shoe being enjoyable.

This reminds me, I gotta try getting through 8 using only barehands for all characters.

Use 800 gigabytes of samples, I give approximately 0 gigafucks.

Where does Mario poop in the airship? Behind his chair? In Cappy?

I did a game of 8 using only Fisticuffs and the non-weapon skills.  It's easy enough if you use a monster team, if not I guess it might be pretty hard.

Recently won a Dragon Quest I&II Super Famicom SNES reproduction cart on Ebay. But of course the label is crap. So I made some of my own last night.

Gonna try to get'em printed by someone out there who does SNES repros.

It was hard finding good source material and then extracting stuff from that source material. I had to go ~ 4-600% Zoom in with a 1 pixel wide Eraser for most of the fine detail to extract without damage because the source material available was so low res and somewhat low quality.

The first DQ I played was 2, and the first one I beat was 3. I enjoyed 4 the most, probably because it was closer to the later FF's in that you didn't have just generic characters like the prior games (each character had a real name, not just a title like "wizard" or "cleric" etc -- Ragnar's the man! lol). Also, the storyline was much better than previous games imo. I later played 6 on ZSNes (patched translation), but didn't get too far. I also played through like 98% of 7, but got stuck and eventually gave up. Next I picked up 8 for the PS2, and enjoyed it immensely, though sadly never got the chance to play it through all the way.

5 is the bomb. I think it is the best DQ.

I'm biased towards 3 because of the extreme customization and how excited I was to first play it, but I've enjoyed every single one I've played.  I have quite the fondness for 9 and was sorely disappointed to hear 10 is an MMO.

Ah well, 1-9 have given me lots of fun over the years, so it's all good. :)

So, I get my Dragon Quest I&II Repro cart in today.

And the person made it with the 1.1 version of the RPGOne translation...Version 2.0 came out 10 YEARS AGO. AND THEY USE Version 1.1?!?
