Is it just me or does  it look like guns break enemy poise on pretty much every shot?

It does. But there aren't a lot of bullets to go around, or so Miyazaki says. Also it causes little damage. There is a lack of shield, so guns now act as your crowd control and poise breaker. I don't even think your character has poise or a block.

While the lack of shield has more worried a bit, as long as it doesn't play like Dark Souls without shields then I'm fine with it.  In other words, if they make subtle changes to the flow of combat so that it works without shields, then it will come off as a new and interesting type of gameplay.

This looks like something I'll have a better time getting into than Dark Souls, based on what I've read. Now just to shanghai a PS4. o_O

Also, if you though DS was Castlevania-esque.....dear lord this look like it takes it up a notch. <3

I'm imagining Ellis writing the script to this at a computer, and every time he gets to the end of a line about religion being bad he smacks his fedora to tip it, making the sounds of a typewriter being reset.

I think this gif might show the flow of combat the best.

I'm a little worried about the lack of shield as well, considering I have always played Souls games as kind of a tank. It's going to be different, that's for sure.
I wonder if they are aiming to be a middle ground between DMC (for example) and Souls. More mobile but maybe not crazy combo stuff? I haven't read any of the interviews or anything, so I don't know if they have talked about that.

Seems like something that would be straight up my alley, but not having a PS4 makes my interest purely from a bystander's perspective.

I'm going to need to get a PS4 for this eventually, but probably hold out as long as possible like I did with getting a PS3 for Demon's Souls. Most of my favorite Dark Souls characters I've played have been shieldless.

On a good note, the PS4 definitely seems like the console to get this generation, unless you're just skipping consoles entirely.

I like it.  It definitely seems like a faster paced, dark souls with no shield.  As long as they focus on a limited number of meaningfully different moves per weapon as in the Souls games, then I'm totally fine with it.

That's what I'd wanted to kind do, to be honest. Had a new PC built last year to handle Steam and PC gaming because I wasn't impressed with any new consoles, and as awesome as this looks, I'm not throwing down for one based on just one or two games.

I'm hoping they eventually release it for PC/Steam.

I've come to terms with the fact that the only games newer than Gamecube that I'll ever play are the Souls games. Though my PC is quite macho.
