Farcry is dumb and full of microtransactions
Red Dead is dumb and full of microtransactions
Assassins Creed is dumb and full of microtransactions
GTA is dumb and full of microtransactions
Fallout is dumb and full of microtransactions
Mario games are pretty solid.

PC games are better than console games and it's obvious.

I couldn't figure out how to put quarters in my AES, so I had to buy and MVS. RIP the system!

Updated Shinobi series rankings:

  • Shinobi (arcade)
  • Revenge of Shinobi
  • Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
  • Shadow Dancer (arcade)
  • Shadow Dancer (Genesis)
  • Shinobi Legions
  • Shinobi (3DS)

Legions is better than the 3DS game, so that's... something, I guess...? Honestly, I don't mind the digitized graphics or the soundtrack (which was entirely redone for PAL regions). The game even starts off completely innocuous. The first level doesn't feel really out of place with the series. Then the 2nd level has vertical scrolling with a bad camera and shit hitting you from offscreen. It leaves you with a bit of a bad taste in your mouth and it's all downhill from there.

There's no way anyone has legitimately beaten this game in the history of gaming. The level designs descend into maddening unfair territory. I used the level select cheat so I could play it over the course of a few nights, and by the time I reached the 7th level (out of 9), I started using the 99 lives code so I didn't have to restart at the start of the level after losing all of my lives. But I did "beat it" so my life is now objectively worse.

I really dug this song, probably because I listened to it a lot learning to not fall into the waters of Hong Kong(?) harbor:

I love the continuity issues of the main character drowning to death in-game even though the live action FMVs show him diving off a cliff and swimming into an underwater cave.

I do have a copy of Alex Kidd in Shinobi World ready to go next. I played a bit of the first level and it's already head and shoulders above Legions and 3DS.

I just love that Shinobi Arcade is number 1 on your list. Not controversial at all.

I don't, maybe it should be between the Shadow Dancers. Pretty good game. Much better than the actual port of Shinobi to the Master System and much better than Miracle World (sorry, I have zero nostalgia goggles for that game). Really enjoyed the remixes of the Shinobi tracks and parody bosses.

Shinobi World is a great game.

too bad it was rushed and changed. There is one unfinished level in the rom (you know, to match Mandara) and the original Lv. 1 Boss:

I guess Sega lacked the balls to release it as this. But the sprite is still hidden in the ROM (and then, the fact that boss turns mini when it takes damage, makes all the sense).

Ocarina of Time is overrated. A lot of the problems with modern gaming started with that game.

I would have to agree with you on that as well. Ocarina had Navi that started the trend of treating the player like a moron. Final Fantasy 7 started the watch more than you play style that would later be abused. I love both of these games but mechanics that they introduced were copied and taken to extremes by later games.

Don't forget "deep", pseudo philosophical plots that make no sense and angsty characters.

Having missed playing anything on PS1, I attempted to play through FF7 on steam a couple of years ago. Got pretty far but all the mini games and distractions kept me from finishing it. I just lost interest. I can't remember if I used the cloud save feature at the time, I kinda want to go back and finish it.

Moon, I may have to play through Shinobi World if you are ranking it above SD. As a true successor to Shinobi Arcade, I loved SD on Genesis so much. What are the differences between SD on gen and arcade?
