First celebrity death in a while that has really bummed me out.
RIP Prince, you made a lot of great music.
'the smuggest amongst us will always be the quickest to point out the most minor transgressions of others around them'- a quote i just made up and put quotes around to make it seem slightly fancier

Huge bummer. I remember being 13 seeing a commercial for this weird guy Prince's movie. The girls in the room were thrilled - I could tell he was gonna be a big star. Very talented man.

Prince was a straight up musical genius. Whatever personality flaws he had are not really relevant. He brought great music to millions upon millions of people, and died too young. I don't think it's about deifying anyone, but when someone manages to touch a decent chunk of a planets population with music and his work in music that most people aren't even aware of, it's a great loss.
It's really about showing respect to the dead, and when it's someone who manages to use his life for something that's ultimately beneficial, it's deserved respect.

May we never meet our heroes
i wanted to echo this because this, most of the time, is entirely applicable. i remember when i met dave mustaine a few times when i was an impressionable teen, i was horrified to discover that he was a colossal asshole. it didn't change how i perceived his music or his place in metal but it sure took a lot of the gloss and glitter off him. i don't jive with assholes... but metal god and stuff so it's ok.
that said, i still think prince's body of work and innate musical ability does damn near deify him. there are very few artists who have transcended the popular stage with his skillsets and ability...
and if it's a matter of him being batshit nuts, well then most every artist is fucked then because they're all a batty lot.
RIP mr. nelson.

In 2007, Prince played the Super Bowl halftime show. It was pouring rain. He played Purple Rain amidst a downpour...in purple light. A perfect storm, one would say. Rest in power Prince.
