It's been at least three days since Grant's badical proof-of-concept cardboard Switch pinball cab got featured on Destructoid and I haven't seen anything about it. It's pretty good.

from a pinball point of view, i cant imagine having a cardboard box would really be much of an improvement on just using the regular controls for a variety of reasons

there *are* some really badass ones like this for the occulus rift/ vive versions of PFX though that have the heft of a real machine but its basically just a block w buttons so it would be more expensive than this BUT probably like $6000 less than buying a real table

Well, it's a prototype that he made for testing purposes to see how it functions before he builds an actual cab for it. If you didn't see the video he's got it docked and connected to a vertical TV, which simulates the table size decently. So you load that up into an actual cab with some weight to it and it better replicates the experience. But it's just for fun :P

Anybody else download the 5.0 firmware update? Pretty neat that you can send requests to folks that you have added on Facebook and Twitter! Aside from that, not much new lmao

You don't see me going to ice cream socials and not eating ice cream and socializing.

Well Blossom Tales ended up being kinda lame. I was enjoying myself up through the 1st or 2nd dungeon. I've got so many gripes:

  • Game is super easy (with all of the healing items the game throws at you, you'd have to actually try to see the game over screen... which I did not see)
  • Overworld isn't particularly fun to explore
  • Sword is complete shit compared to your sub-weapons (although the jump strike is pretty fucking cool)
  • Dungeons are completely linear
  • Game throws way too many enemies on the screen
  • Tile and block puzzles are out of place and hurt the pacing

On the plus side, the graphics and music were charming at times. This tune is fantastic:

I don't necessarily regret playing it, but it would be hard to recommend to pretty much anyone. Just play any 2D Zelda instead.

Thanks for the review. I'll probably wait and pick it up when it's on sale.

I like it. It's tough to compare a $10 indie Zelda-like to a $60 first party Nintendo Zelda game.

I don't think that's fair either. Hyper Light Drifter, for example, is a Zelda-inspired indie game that is absolutely worth playing. If you're going to try to so clearly rip-off Zelda, you're either going to have to be as good as it or at least bring something new and interesting to the table.

I guess I wasn't looking for something that was on par with LTTP or something. It was a $10 Zelda-like that gave me $10 worth of entertainment over the course of a week. I just can't put a game made by basically two people on the same level as a Nintendo title. I do think it had some things about it that made it stand out. The combat relies much more on your non-sword weapons, the female protagonist, the narration, etc.

Here's some recent news about how the Switch port helped them a lot.

http://www.gameinfor...am-showing.aspx

I don't think Hyper Light Drifter feels like Zelda at all, and I couldn't get into that game. It's technically a great game, but just not one that I was into.

Different strokes and all that. I'm not saying you're wrong in not liking it, but I did and so did many other people even if it's not the most amazing game ever.

the female protagonist, the narration, etc.

Definitely props for the female protagonist.

I felt like the narration was neat, but something they could have leaned into much more to better differentiate themselves. I think there were only 2 times during the game where the player got to alter the story and both decisions just changed which enemies spawned in that room.

I also enjoyed when the kids were like:

Wild Guns Reloaded came out on Switch. Looks like both GameStop and Walmart have physical copies.

Looks like it'd be fun for a weekend, but my dogs will destroy that shit the moment I turn my back. Can't justify the gold pieces.

My co-workers say it's fun to build, and then about an hour's worth of fun afterwards.

I'm more looking forward to the first- and third-party expansions to the Labo concept. There are already forums of people conceptualizing new Labo content, and I think that's great!

Been enjoying Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Never picked it up on Wii U for some reason. Just wrapped up world 3. Been grabbing all the K-O-N-G and doing the bonus levels. 2-K took me at least 45 minutes. Yeesh!
