i still don't have a switch and i want one, but not bad enough to ever drop the money. so my dumb brain will frequently re-frame expenses in terms of PSB (possible switches bought). for example, a $450 vet bill is 1.5 PSB and so forth. so i am extra annoyed that the day after the lite got announced i had my car battery die at the exact price of 1 PSLB :(

I beat Blazing Chrome last night and it was incredible. It feels like a lost sequel of Hard Corps. I also went through boss rush mode as the Ninja and man, that was a blast. I wasn't impressed with Odallus or Oniken but Joymasher nailed this one.

Side note: The credits song is completely legit.

The developer's last two games have been, IMO, the most legit NES-styled titles released in the last decade.  Shovel Knight was great, but felt very much like the devs have years of knowledge of game design, whereas Oniken and Odallus felt EXACTLY like random titles I would have rented at a video store in like 1992.  I'm definitely stoked for Blazing Chrome, even though its main inspiration is Contra 3, which is my least favorite of the NES/SNES series.

I'll have to agree with Matsu. I wasn't overly impressed with either Oniken or Odallus. They nailed the visual aesthetic, I will give you that. Oniken tried way too hard to do Ninja Gaiden style cut-scenes and it really got lost in the weeds. The scenes were too long, and who gives a fuck about the story if you need so many panels dedicated to it instead of just playing the game. The gameplay itself was ok, but nothing incredible. A serviceable homage to the NES era, but nothing special. Odallus was just too involved. The areas were labyrinthine, and trying to remember what areas you had to go back to was as bad as playing through Castlevania 2 for the first time. Again the gameplay was serviceable, but not compelling.

If I had to choose the best experience I've had with a game in NES style over the last year it was probably Castle in the Darkness. I'm not sure if it's on switch, I played through it on Steam. Good platforming, and they had a nice warp system to make traversing previous areas easier. It also had elements of early rygarmanias a la CV2. The platforming was kind of brutal, and I died hundreds of times getting 100%, but it captured the NES vibe for me in both visuals and audio. Just check it out.

The wife and I wrapped up Secret of Mana tonight. The game is mad nostalgic, but janky AF. Looking forward to playing Trials of Mana for the first time!

Final Fantasy XII Zodiac is pretty good. Been enjoying replaying the game. Still holds up pretty well!

gato roboto is a very charming, even if it is quite derivative. aside from some weird difficulty spikes on the bosses, its been a breezy few hours so far.

There's a game called Membrane on sale for a whopping 9 cents right now in the eshop. I had never heard of it but it seems like it has good reviews, and it's hard to pass up 9 cents.

Pre-ordered this ugly ass thing last night. Officially licensed by Nintendo, ergonomic joycon controllers. I personally like the joycons but sometimes it can be rough to use so I figured I'd give it a shot

I'm debating doing the same. I don't play handheld a lot, and I don't hate the joycons, but it would still be nice.
