hold off beating it as long as possible
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

oh man i missed the climbing bandana, was it on the great plateau?
I got to play for about... 6 hours today. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm learning and it's so fucking good. I had to chase an arrow down a river bank because the wind was blowing it away from me. The puzzles are really fun so far! Nothing super crazy yet, but that one that gives you the climber's bandana (timing is crucial, I think) was cool. Getting to the chest with it had me scratching my head a bit but I figured it out. I really like having the means to use all these runes pretty much right away and getting to just experiment with the world around me with it. About to finish my 8th shrine and get, probably, another stamina upgrade. I need to go to bed to go be an adult tomorrow but dammit, this is so cool.
Dueling Peaks area, if I recall. I think if you go to one of the shrines as the very top of one of the peaks, you need to paraglide down between them to find a shrine.
It doesn't seem to make a huge difference, but it's my first hat and I totes look like a pirate when I'm on a raft. The puzzle to get it was fun, had to use multiple runes to figure it out and it was satisfying when I got it. There are probably other ways to finish it as well, but I liked my path:

Beat Vah Ruto like forever ago, FINALLY decided to proceed to Vah Medoh last night. This is the first Zelda game since Wind Waker to genuinely make me want to explore, and strike me with pure wonder when I stumble upon a new sidequest or main quest milestone.
Ugh I can't wait to play more.

I fucking LOVE how there are no hard restrictions on where you can go, it's just on how you think to get there and if you have the resourcefulness to get through it. Did my first minor test of strength, challenged for sure and I need to up my combat game for sure and remind myself that it isn't Dark Souls. Also fought that mini colossus in the Plateau, totally missed a ton of stuff there and found my first Korok. This is so awesome!

these are pretty sick. Nintendo of Japan released these BotW wallpapers to say thanks to their fans. I finally got around to doing some of the lost memories side quest so I'm feeling these pretty hard.

That's the one thing I think I have left to do (lost memories). Beat the challenge island (where you have no weapons or supplies), which opens up a few cool things on that island. I also know that there's a third great fairy somewhere that I haven't found -- I'll probably try to track her down tonight as well. I'll probably be all done by this weekend.

I feel like I'm so far behind most of y'all.
I figured out sailing the other night, which is awesome and scary. I sailed to a shrine island thingy, and got my @#$ kicked by a guardian. So I sailed back to the mainland, climbed up a cliff (as ya do), found another shrine, and got my @#$@ kicked by another guardian. >_< So I wondered around, beat up some bokobs (as ya do), and stumbled across another huge sleeping giant nerd.
I said, fuggit, I'm gonna see if I can talk to him. He smooshed me. So I tried fighting him, and hit him in the eyeball ("hey, don't offend me") and he went "OWWWW" and then smooshed me. Then I thought, ya know, maybe I can actually fight this nerd. So I shot him in the eyeball a few times, slashed his shinbone(s), and then got smooshed. Eventually I beat him, and it was exhilarating! I found two others nearby and figured out that I needed to hand-carry their balls to these shrine cups to unlock the shrine.
Sweet, now the REAL test begins! The ancient/spirit inside said "if you've made it this far, you've already proven yourself worthy -- have a MacGuffin!" Thanks.
