It's that time again for more shameless self promotion!  Put out a new album today called Skeleton Key.  All instrumental as usual, but made with only 2 clean guitars, bass and drums.  No whacky pedals or synths or chiptunes or any of that jazz.  A bit of a departure for me.  Check it out if you're interested:

Got it. Next time more doot, check.

Everyone loves Elder Scrolls. WTF does that have to do with this album? Did I accidentally name a song after a town or spell or some shit?

Some good shizz here. I like it.

Thanks!!

Wasn’t exactly going for 90s or math rock but I could see that. I think every time I hear 2 clean guitars with bass and drums my mind immediately goes to The Advantage, although I don’t honestly think I channeled too much VGM in this one. I’m sure it’s in there though, there is no escaping it for me hehe

Thanks so much guys for everyone who took the time to listen to this! Can always rely on the Shizz to try new things and be honest about it. Much love fuckers

I mean, considering the album art, you can't help but expect a little bit of doot. But don't worry, you more than made up for it with great music!

I think this my fav album of yours I’ve heard. You sound very at home with this sound.

What’s your signal chain like for your guitars? Sounds real good! Not super crazy bout the snare tbh.

Thanks man I really appreciate that! What’s weird about that comment is that I’m way way more at home with tons of effects and pedals and layers and synths, this one being so raw was actually a little weird for me to work on, but I’m glad it at least came across that way.

Guitars were all tracked with a Mesa Studio Preamp. It’s a vintage tube preamp, great for tracking. Next into the 500 series Great River pre and then I took that into my LA-2A (on about 75% of the guitars) which has vintage RCA tunes and an upgraded opto circuit. Then it goes into the converters (Aurora16). NO speaker cabinets on this album at all, but lots of various tubes gave it that thicker analog tone. Bass was similar just without the Mesa in front. A few of the guitars I used an el8x Distressor instead of the LA-2A to get a faster attack speed on the input comp.

I hear you on the snare man. All of these drums were programmed in SD2. It’s the Music City kit on everything. I kept turning the snare down more and more while I mixed and reducing the velocity, but it’s still that fakey tone no matter what I tried... it’s funny when I got SD2 years ago it sounded better than any drums I was able to track at the time, but now that I built out my live room and got a nice maple Mapex kit and have upgraded the snare (blackbeauty) and cymbals over the years the acoustic drum tone I can get it way better than SD2. Still I ended up using SD since I can still program better than I can play drums lol. Maybe if I get my chips up I can track acoustic drums for future releases and get some better tones there.

Again thanks all for the comments!
