Sometimes I like to add a slice of swiss, as swiss toasts and melts really nicely. A good dense sourdough is the ultimate bread for a grilled cheese. Also this poll is incomplete as it's missing the critical "Which fat do you use?" category, as any grilled cheese sandwich made without butter is a mockery and should be re-labelled a panini because that's what it fucking is eat my ass.

If theshizz.org/forum allowed more than three polls per topic, I would have included one for fats.

If you put put anything other than cheese in between the bread slices you are no longer making a grilled cheese sandwich and need to fuck right off.

I hear you, but: pickles. Try it. Thank me.

Also, "wheat" bread is made with a proportion (not too much, or that shit will never rise) of whole wheat flour. White flour is made from only the germ of the wheat.

I'm not saying it's not good tasting (to some), I'm just saying it's not a grilled cheese at that point.

And when I said 'wheat', all I meant was the dark bread that's always at the store next to the regular, white-ass bread.

That bread is the bread of gods. It's not chosen for grilled cheese because of the # of grains, it's chosen because it tastes the best.

Also:

Why post that when the video makes it 100000000x better?

Must toast the bread in the toaster first. Otherwise the butter will make the bread too soggy.

I have tried this light, pre-toast method and found it works well with breads that are not very dry. It's actually really good for soft, thick bread slices. Gives them a bit of structure and also helps make butter a little easier to spread. Not something I always do, though.

I just had one that was one slice havarti and one slice muenster on plain white bread. Magnifico.

I like to grate cheddar and gruyere and mix it up with black pepper & thyme.

Bread is whatever's on sale, because idk what happened but any decent loaf of bread is like $4+ now, and anything around $1 is just a horrible experience.

I use mild cheddar only because sharp isn't widely available where I live.

Word. I followed you, but I was responding to paragon's query and didn't care to figure out multiquote on mobile.

Yeah, I mean, just make sure the pan/butter are actually heated enough first.

I'm the one who typically makes the grilled cheese sandwiches in our house, so Snapple is basically talking about mine. B)

So yeah, I usually do multigrain bread + sharp cheddar + bacon bits + tomato soup

I'll use whatever bread, though. And I'll throw in whatever cheese we got that needs using up. Bacon bits aren't a necessity. But butter is, so yes, eat my ass if you ruin your sandwich with oil.

When the sandwich is gone, I finish my soup with cheddar goldfish crackers. I buy them in the huge cartons. B)

I recently had the best grilled cheese experience of my life. It was goat cheese on locally-made sourdough with a tomato-jam (like a savory preserve) on the side. And I dunked it in a spicy chicken tortilla soup. I have ascended beyond this poll.

Strongly disagree there. It's still a grilled cheese, it just becomes a sub-set of grilled cheese. Kind of like how adding blast beats and growls to metal makes it death metal rather than heavy metal. It's still metal!

I enjoy putting bacon in my grilled cheese and then dipping it in tomato soup. I really can't have a grilled cheese (with bacon!) without tomato soup.
