I know MJ is a negative-hot-button topic in pop culture for the 30th time or so right now, but the desert part of the Speed Demon video is also sort of in tune with the OP, and, coming from the biggest pop artist of all time, it's impossible to think that there wasn't a cohesive "ground zero" so-to-speak for this vibe:

Almost every drawing I make is heavily influenced by this aesthetic. I can't get enough of it, don't know what to call it, but know it/feel warmly nostalgic when I see it!

So are we talking the general geometric shapes + bright colors aesthetic, a la Zach Morris sweaters, or something more specific than that?

I always called this the "Rude Dog" look

Holy shit, I've been trying to remember any kind of identifying info about the white dog with the late 80s/early 90s aesthetic for DECADES.

More specific although it overlaps with that, it has the bright colors but more curvature and often includes furries.

Edit: holy crap one of those guide books used Rippingtons art hahahaha!

I never knew about The Rippingtons until this thread, but I fucking love them now.

I also think that their cover art is the key to unlocking this whole thing.

The Ripppingtons cover artist is apparently Bill Mayer. Dude loves his furries.

Looks like it’s inspired by Russian avant-garde art from early 20ths century.
Check out some Kandinsky, Malevich, Chagall and you’re probably gonna see the same color palettes, shapes etc

I checked out all 3, Kandinsky is my favorite by far. I noticed you listed him first, is he your favorite of the three and/or the most well known? Really digging his stuff :)

I’m more into Malevich, the colors on some of his pre-suprematist works are amazing.

I mentioned Kandinsky because he’s more known in the west I think.

Yeah, even i heard of Kandinsky, (and only him, of the ones streifig listed), so i would agree, that he is the more widely-known one.
