Everyone who reads this thread knows I hate new Gibsons, but that's only because they're so goddamn overpriced and the quality isn't really all that great. I have to admit recently, I've been looking at Gibson Firebirds and Les Paul Deluxes from the 70s. The mini humbuckers sound really good. I know a guy with a 1980 Les Paul Deluxe, and it's an awesome sounding guitar. The thing is, you can get what's essentially a Les Paul Standard from the 70s, just with different (and I think better) pickups, for about a third of what an actual Les Paul Standard from the 70s would cost you.
But the firebirds are so awesome with their weird body shape. They also have mini humbuckers. On my way out of guitar center last time I was there I saw one, but didn't play it because my wife and I were running errands and we really didn't have time. It looked sweet, with neck binding and inlays... Warmoth makes Firebird bodies, but they're bolt-on. Too many guitars, too little money. If I ever win the lottery I'l be a playing collector, that's for sure.

well, i was thinking about getting that mxr double shot distortion pedal, but now i'm seriously considering getting a visual sounds jeckyll and hyde distortion. i haven't heard any reviews on the double shot, but i've heard a lot of good things about the visual sounds pedal. that, and i can get one used from ebay for about half the price of the mxr pedal.
i haven't worked on any of my guitars lately, and i may not for a couple of days. i don't know if it's because i'm just lazy, or because i'm just sick of getting frustrated (most likely the former).

I almost just bought some stuff from torres engineering. I got paid today and thought I'd pick up a couple things I've been wanting to try. A couple of different 12AX7 preamp tubes have been catching my eye. I bought some NOS "Silver Special" tubes several months ago, which according to some people are some of the best tubes ever made (short of 50s Mullards or Telefunkens). I paid like $20 a piece for them, and I think they sound okay, but the ones I had in there before I thought sounded cleaner. The mids on the silver specials are a little too loose for me. Too bad I can't remember how I had it set up before! Anyway, modifying amps is just like modifying guitars - you can spend tons of money and time on stuff and never be totally happy with it. I also was going to pick up the Torres 6-way mod for my crybaby, because I've always kinda disliked how the crybaby sounds (but it's paid for, so why buy another). Anyway, I looked at my shopping cart and saw I had already gotten above $50 before shipping on two preamp tubes and a wah mod, and decided to clear out my cart and not buy anything. I am in the market for a Rotovibe and need to buy drum equipment, so I don't need to be blowing wads of cash on a wah pedal I hardly use and some tubes that may or may not sound better than the plethora of tubes I already have laying around.
I was looking forward to the wah mod, though. I haven't worked on anything in a while and I've got the itch. Maybe I'll crack open the frankenstrat and try to figure out why the neck pickup cuts out from time to time.

i'm thinking of looking for some mods for my vox wah pedal. it seems to go from really bassy, to really trebley very quickly without a smooth transition. maybe a different tapering pot will do the trick. i'll research it.
i think i've decided to get an alesis sr-16 drum machine. so the plan now is to order that drum machine, an electro harmonix holy grail reverb, and the boss tuner from musician's friend in a few weeks. i'll also try to find a jeckyll and hyde distortion on ebay. of course, between now and the time i get the money, i'm sure i'll have changed my mind about something.

Yeah, that's how it goes, doesn't it?
of course, between now and the time i get the money, i'm sure i'll have changed my mind about something.
I have made up my mind. I will *absolutely* be spending money on drum stuff, and maybe a rotovibe if one is cheap enough on ebay.
See, the problem is, I've got stuff to buy for guitars and guitar amps, and vocal stuff for a PA, and recording gear and drum stuff and that isn't to mention how much I'd really like to get a piano. I could scream it's so frustrating.

speaking of the rotovibe again, what's your max price (in case i find one...doubtful)?

i need to work on my guitars tomorrow, i need to work on my guitars tomorrow, i need to work on my guitars tomorrow...no need to get a new one yet, no need....
