Great thread to peg Doomsday. Basically it allows you to play any .wad based game online. Zio and I did co-op through the entire original Doom game a while back...lots of fun. I'll have to dig up the instructions on how to install it again.

Hurt me Plenty is fun enough for me. Good mix of strategy and rambo-ing it out.

For any serious Doom fanatic, I highly recommend trying to play each level starting fresh (kill yourself, and then use only the items/weapons you find in the level). On the hardest difficulty setting of course. You can save/load as much as you want. Even with saving, I couldn't beat Barrels O' Fun and the rest were a very interesting challenge.

I was playing a newly constructed "DOOM" mod for L4D 2 yesterday. Didn't play enough of it to really formulate a valid opinion, but I thought it was a neat idea!

eh, doing this on Nightmare is just dumb.

hurt me plenty this is kind of fun.

i didn't play the fourth episode until somewhat recently (okay like a year ago) and was shocked at how hard it was. on hurt me plenty, the only difficulty that matters.

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure he meant Hurt Me Plenty. I dunno why, but people seem to forget Nightmare is actually the hardest difficulty.

i cross'd a barrier into SCOOPvilLe yesterday and dunked with the best jammers and fresh dip ballers roundabout through an awesome bomb dunk party.

People always have this problem when I talk about Doom. In my mind, Nightmare difficulty doesn't exist in Doom unless you're playing co-op (as that's what it was clearly designed for).

I would just call the 4th setting by its name, but I can never remember what it's called.

ULTRA-VIOLENCE YOU TOSSERS

I beated all the Dooms and Heretics and Hexens on that difficulty or its equivalent. Only beat the first episode of the original Doom on NIGHTMARE!!. And like 12 levels in Doom 2 and maybe the first level in Evilution.

This topic inspired me to play through Vanilla Doom for the first time since I was maybe 6 or 7. This was my first time playing it with WASD/mouse and it was one hell of a lot of fun. Can't decide where to go from here though. Other chapters, Doom II, Wolf 3D, Duke 3D, Aliens of Gold, Dark Forces. Probably some other great ones I'm missing.

Same here, except for the Nightmare stuff. I only beat the first level of DOOM 1 on Nightmare, and that was just for the achievement. I believe Wolf3D only went up to Ultra-Violence for difficulty.
