These two songs only have a slight similarity. I wouldn't call it a rip off at all.

Unless they are in the same key with the same exact notes and everything it would be a rip off. It does sound similar, but the Qunicy Jones song has a different feel than the SMB3 theme.

heh I liked the fact in Chrono Cross where they actually added in accents to various characters. It enabled me to envision their voice better, but also helped fuel stereotypes, such as the case with Harle and a few others. Honestly, I had no trouble reading it and if makes it hard for you to read, then don't read it and go about your business. I usually glaze over posts that do crappy short handed posts, or have confusing grammar.

Sacr bleu!

Zis iz very, very bad. Mon friend showed zis to moi tonight and I am very displeased with monsieur Koji Kondo.

Ze song he ripped off from iz called "Cry Baby" by Quincy Jones off of ze album "Mellow Madness" in 1975. Here iz a zip of a clip from zis song, and a clip from ze Super Mario Bros 3 song slowed down to ze same tempo as zis song.

Keep in mind zat ze key for both songz are exactly ze same. Ze notez aren't all exactly ze same, but it'z close enough for moi. Apparently Quincy Jones waz very popular in Japan, which makez it very probable for it to be ripped off by greedy Japanese composerz.

Ze source for finding zis I do not know. I believe mon friend found zis on another forum. If he getz angry about credibilitiez, I'll put hiz name on here.

Je suis choqu.....

i didn't bother to read that post, since you're obviously... a fucking CUNT. so in regards to that, view this;

I agree totally its like he is trying to be funny but it is really anoying.

remember, vanilla ice got away from his "rip off" acusations by this statement:

"Ya see, their song went like this: bum bum bum buh da bum bum
and see my song went like this: bum bum bum buh da bum bum tsh"

I don't think he got away with it, i heard he didn't. *turns on Cool as Ice*

In any case, didn't he sample the original song or something?

No.

The two melodies are musically similar, but not enough so to accuse anyone of ripping anyone off.

That faux french crap is hurting your argument almost as much as it hurts my eyes.

Stop now.

He didn't actually get away with it, nor did he really expect to. Basically, both he and the record label knew they were going to get caught and have to pay up, which they did.

Yes, I watched the Behind the Music.

Was it Spiderman or Batman?
And wasn't it removed anyway in later copies because of legal issues?

I believe they replaced Spiderman with Batman in later copies, actually.

For what it's worth, if I recall, the version on the Sega 6-Pak had Spiderman.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post. WOE IS ME.

Well I've been doing some research recently on this, because quite simply my life has been a waste of space as of recent.
Anyway, in the EGM # 150 Jan. 2002 issue, they have Revenge of Shinobi listed as # 73 in the top 100 games of all time list.
There's a side note that explains how early copies had Spiderman as a boss, but then morphs into Batman when you beat him, continuing the fight. Sega refused to every pay DC Comics, so the later copies would have Spiderman transform into a less recognizable bat creature.
And Sega got permission from Marvel to have Spiderman in the game.
So there ya go.
