#1232284 what do we need to talk about? It has been a sad weekend.

Posted by joe.distort on 15 October 2013 - 02:21 PM

i did not know them personally, but as a member of the local music community it definitely feels like we have a little bit shorter of a lifespan than average

that is sad and terrifying and i give my condolences to those of you who were friends and family to them before their premature end.

life is scary. try to enjoy and appreciate what you have while you still have it.

#1183847 Did you know the shizz was born on (for) NYE?

Posted by joe.distort on 12 December 2012 - 11:16 AM

for NYE this year we will eaither be broke and snuggled at home (i spent last NYE alone since liz got stuck at work like 3 hours late :( i was literally asleep on the couch waiting for her when it hit midnight)

OR

if things go right and everything, i kinda want to go to one of the indian casinos on the outskirts and be able to look out into the blackness of the desert from a tall building. i dont mean that in some creepy depress-o way, just that i like the odd openness of it and almost never experience it. seems fitting for some reason.

i will rep my part of the shizz by geting boozy and yelling at strangers who dont care about comics and/or powerviolence

im not kidding.

i do it in real life as much as i do it on the internet

#1173449 Politics 2012--local votes? Maricopa county AZ

Posted by joe.distort on 22 October 2012 - 10:14 AM

the biggie as we all know is Penzone. fuck arpaio. the fact that people keep voting for him is actually more upsetting to me than any other political issue in my entire lifetime- not because of how terrible he is, but because it reflects on how terrible all of my neighbors are

#1167353 Any interesting local bands here?

Posted by joe.distort on 17 September 2012 - 08:56 AM

Hi everyone. I just moved to PHX and want to know if there are any interesting, challenging local bands I should keep an eye on. I' am always looking for variations of the 90's Chicago/Louisville post-rock genre. I' am also a fan of dream-pop/shoegaze bands like Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine and genre-less bands like Devotchka. I would like to meet other musicians as well and was told "Go to shows and you'll meet people there." I looked at the Arizona reverbnation.com chart for any upcoming shows and became frustrated seeing how many people listed themselves under the independent genre when they are clearly not.

SNOW SONGS! they sound up your alley, more dreamy than shoegaze though. check Up On The Sun and Silver Platter

#1160733 Hey! Mars, that's pretty cool.

Posted by joe.distort on 13 August 2012 - 10:39 AM

while i agree that chart looks pretty horrible, there really needs to be a second one that compares the money brought IN because of the olympics. both sides have to be considered, like complaining that athletes make 10 million a year while ignoring the fact that the team generates like 500 million in that same span

#1152271 So Much For Affordable Health Care

Posted by joe.distort on 09 July 2012 - 02:31 PM

fun fact: under this law, these companies that are for-profit must report the percentage of their income that is spent on paying out claims, payroll, etc through their tax reporting. if that number doesnt reach 80% of their net, they have to pay it back to the enrollees. i just got a check for the difference of last year! its not a ton of money, but its money. also fun: since i wasnt paying the premiums, yet the check is addressed to me and not the company, its a total bonus

Posted by joe.distort on 21 June 2012 - 02:32 PM

while i agree with most feminist-tilting things, there is an angle to a lot of the recent 'outrages' that ignores one thing: is it so bad that dudes want sex? i mean, isnt that kind of a genetic reason why we are all still around? dont get me wrong, a lot of the shit that people get judgemental about is still pretty stupid to me and DUDE, TITS is dumb...but i mean, male sex drive has always been like this. its starting to seem more and more like the new version of 80s stand up 'eh, my wife hates the sex. am i right?'

i might not be making a point well here.

#1138229 Yo, Cats

Posted by joe.distort on 01 May 2012 - 09:56 AM

He also likes bananas:

my cats hate fruit. they love turkey.

the pug (who i know doesnt count in this thread, but shut up, she is the size of the cat and basically counts) loves strawberries, apple slices, carrots and she will lick bananas and watermelon but not chew them. its adorable
