#1038910 Osama is dead

Posted by Danosaur on 03 May 2011 - 12:18 PM

let this be a lesson to future terrorists. attack us once and ten years later, we'll get you back.

i want to amend this statement to say:

let this be a lesson to future terrorists. attack us once and we will spend trillions of dollars on multiple unecessary wars, kill tens of thousands of people including thousands of our own soldiers, kidnap and torture thousands of people in secret and not-so-secret prisons, lie to the UN, lose our badass reputation in the international community, perform hate crimes against our own citizens if their skin color/ethnicity/religion is similar to yours, stir up more anti-american sentiment in the world than ever before, strip our citizens of our own constitutional rights, elect racist/fear-mongering politicians who will steal money from us and be instrumental in the collapse of our economy, make people take their shoes off in the airport and throw away their hand lotion bottles, and then, ten years later, we will get you back. so there.....?

exactly...i agree with all of it accept the lie to the UN part..I could give a crap about the UN considering they still do not recognize the genocide that has befallen Darfur.

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." —Martin Luther King, Jr.

Oh internet...

I have to apologize for the qoute i posted earlier...after further research it was not entirely accurate and like many on facebook I just reposted without thinking. The actual quote from MLK is below:

"Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction. So when Jesus says “Love your enemies,” he is setting forth a profound and ultimately inescapable admonition…. The chain reaction of evil — hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars — must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.” - Dr. Martin Luther King

While the previous quote borrows from this the first part of it was a little too appropriate for the occasion and was added to it as a sort of mash-up quote. Although after reading the actual quote I feel his words still ring true. Don't get me wrong I think the world is a better place without OBL and this is an event that is important for ALL Americans and the world...but after reading some of the hate speech surrounding the way the current administration handled the burial of the body instead of parading it around and dragging it through streets like many have suggested as some sort of visceral revenge party, I can't help but try and take a higher ground and point out that if we continue to wish evil things upon someone who has finally paid the price of their own evil do we not become the very evil we persecute?

craziness! also hey news, please dont show the idiots partying on the white house lawn as the only expression of america upon hearing that osama is a goner. that's embarrassing.

i kinda wished they had only captured him so that he could be tried but whatevskis i guess.

i bet Bush jr. got all pissy when he heard about it.

best part was when i told my mother that the Navy Seals were the ones who went in and killed Osama, she said "Navy Seals? Where was he, underwater?"

let this be a lesson to future terrorists. attack us once and ten years later, we'll get you back.

after watching the meida just embarass the crap out of our nation with that reckless partying going on and after reading many terrible comments on news websites and on how the Obama administration handled the buiral at sea I found this quote,

To continue to wish evil things upon someone who has finally paid the price of their own evil is to become no better then man you persecute. Don;t get me wrong, I am glad that OBL finally got what was coming to him...I just don;t think we should be celebrating it as if we won the world series.

Vin-fiz is the option that is used as the throwout vote. Its the nullified factor in the voting schema that never really counts for anything...much like marking INDEPENDENT on your voting ballot during presidential elections...HEYO!!!

accept I have written in Vin-Fiz on occasion when voting when neither choice is acceptable to my politlcal dogma....

#939705 Home ownership

Posted by Danosaur on 23 August 2010 - 11:17 AM

What sort of home improvement has anyone taken on?

Our hallway bathroom shower was looking pretty rough. Original tile from 30 years ago in the shower, cracked in places, grout missing, tiles not flat with each other. It really needed to be redone. We got with a contractor and are doing it partially ourselves, namely all the demolition, some of the plumbing. It's small enough we decided to retile the floor as well to match the shower.

Getting the tile off the walls was no problem, it was actually pretty fun. Place hammer in hand, swing at wall as hard as you can. The floor tile, what a bitch! Not to mention, the tile had been laid over the original 1980 linoleum floor. So, we had to pull that up too. I will never, ever try to pull up a linoleum floor again. At least I can skip the gym this weekend, a couple hours of scraping inch by inch has been a good cardio workout. :)

My wife and moved into our current home in 2006 and spent the first three months removing two walls, putting up two new beams, re-drywalling, adding new wood flooring, and re-ordering the kitchen including tile, cabinetry and relocating gas and electrical. My brother and I also put in four new down lights across the furred beam that we installed. In 2008, I re did the roof completely and added a vaulted patio cover. This is still not totally completed in that it just needs some finish work and we kinda ran low on funds. We had thought about making it into an addition, but then realized it would have taken about 20K more to complete. Then the market went to shit and I had a hard time convincing my wife to let us upgrade the house any more with our mortgage being so completely underwater. However, I recently installed to new windows in the front room one being a good 8ft picture window. The house is 50+ years old so were talking plaster, concrete and chicken wire that looks like something from a prison camp.

The good news is...we may have found a home we want and have been approved for so me may end up buying that and shortselling this one (or walking away).

I hear you John on that linoleum flooring...best thing I found to use was one of those super large tile scrapper.

holy shit, dan. you're like bob vila.

when we moved in i painted. and i even sucked at that.

Russell Pearce is the biggest bigot, education hater in our Arizona Government. Did I mention he is a douchebag as well. He has nothing good to say about AZ education or AZ teachers. He is the epitamy of a white, upper crust fat bastard who cares little for humanity. He spearheaded the Propositon 300 a few years back that made it a requirement that any arizona funds for adult education be only spent on legal citizens. This killed my programs English aquistion classes to the point that this will probably be the last year we will hold them due to a lack of attendance. I could go on an on about this loser of a politician...but the only thing that needs to happen is that he is voted out next election.
