So I broke my glasses trying while trying to fix them. Got an eye appointment, had the examination, found a pair of frames that normally I wouldn't ever fathom buying, I am the type to get the hour lenses with the cheapest frames, quick and painless as possible, but decided to go ahead and treat myself because my birthday is coming up. I’ll just tell the in-law’s to cover the cost for my gift crosses fingers. A week later I get a call to pick up my brand new super expensive glasses and upon putting them on, I was drunk, well not drunk but I could see as though I was drunk. The prescription was all out of whack. They told me, “oh it’s just because your prescription changed a bit, wait a couple days and if they don’t adjust bring them back in”. I did this the very next day because, screw them man, they messed up and I’m sitting with my new glasses that I so dearly want to wear but headaches are not worth enduring. The next day I begin to have some allergies due to the recent rain storm that messed up all my tree’s in my yard something fierce, so again I am sitting at the eye doctor who was at a “meeting” or on the 18th hole I’m sure. With tissue stuffed up my nose they told me that the glasses meet the prescription, and that I’ll have to make another appointment to recheck my eyes. Awesome, so I go in yet again and mention to the doctor that the front desk guys said there was a significant change in one of my eyes, which the doctor said “oh yea” I should have double checked your old glasses. I sneeze during which eye is better, one or two, one again, two? The following day my allergies turn into a full blow cold as drive way out to BFE Gilbert to sign my refinance papers where I find my closing costs three thousand dollars more then my good faith estimate. After calling my mortgage guy who explained that my closing costs were thirty one hundred but had neglected to tell my about the government MIP costs as well as various hazard insurance costs I cough. Well at least my monthly payment and % rate will drop. That night I sleep with no pillow and wake up with a bad neck, so whenever I turn my head I get a shooting pain, which i found works well with house cleaning. Still sick, no glasses, I come home from grocery shopping to stab my head into one of my larger lower hanging branches in the front of my house due to the storm. I didn’t know I was bleeding till later when the wife was all “why is your head bleeding?” probably would have seen the branch if I had my new glasses. Oh and I lost my phone yesterday so I won’t know when my glasses come in. YES! I am a baby poor me.

insubordination fest baltimore - Booklyn NYC

There we were, all around the Christmas tree last year opening our gifts when we got to a big box form my sister and bother in law, we quickly ripped it open as tradition requires to find an envelope, how tricky, opened it up to find home made insubordination fest tickets. The tickets were home made because they hadn't actually gone on sale yet. To be honest, my first thought was, great, now we have to spend 500 dollars to get our Christmas gift, what a sneaky way of forcing us to visit them, as the fest is in Baltimore. But soon after my eyes began to widen after reading the line up, really? the Dead Milkmen are playing? OK actually i didn't know they were playing till the spring because they were a late addition so you could say slowly over the course of a few months I began to appreciate the tickets more and more. I'm terrible I know. For those of you who don't know, insub fest is a ton of pop punk bands who were either from the mid 90's or are out now trying to sound like they were. Since I was into that era of pop punk I was excited to see that of the 80 some odd bands playing over the 3 nights that some of my favorites would be there. The following is going to go like this, i will post pictures and captions to go along with. I would also like to add, that since the wife and I didn't get to choose our own adventure we decided to take the opportunity to visit two of our best friends in Brooklyn, capthfc and his girl sunshine, via a short 4 hour bus ride up from badimer. (i think thats how they pronounce it, fatguy az would know).

What are you Pointing at!
this is teenage bottle rocket the first night at the otto bar, my sister in law's fav band. the place was in a sketch neighborhood, but pretty much all of baltimore is like that. the great thing was that an old friend from college lives in the charm city and meet us up.

this is outside the the sonar club where the 2nd and 3rd nights were at. punks abound

(there was a band called sick sick birds who parked their van in the alley off the 3 stage and sold sick sick burgers and hot dogs all night. a great addition)

this is banner pilot, they are one of my favorite new pop punk bands right now, which is saying a lot. trust me (winks at mikey)

so i live in a small historic neighborhood in phoenix where we have a neighborhood dog whisperer. he watches dogies for rich people mostly in the biltmore area, and hooks up us neighbors if we are out of town and whatnot. so last weekend while the wife and myself were at a hippie wedding in sedona our dog sammy stayed with him up the street. when i picked her up, the dog whisperer (not the guy on tv) tells me that he had the mccain dogs over as well. He said these little toy dogs are a handful and not very socialized. so the story goes like this, sammy was drinking some water and one of the mccain's dogs came over to her and started snapping and tried to be the alpha dog. sammy turns and flips the dog somehow on it's back and holds it down with one paw and regulates. from what i was told the mccain dogs stayed on the other side of house the rest of the weekend. just thought i would share, because it thought it was a bit crazy. i also made sure she didn't draw blood or anything, as i love my dog and don't want to have to deal with having to put her down or anything. but yea my dog is badass.

Musicans Discount

http://theshizz.org/forum/index.php?app=blog&blogid=4&showentry=5

So I saw that Mikey had written about GC, and Donalds thing about Bizarre Guitar and I thought I would suggest Musicians Discount as a great alternative, I went there the other day to get some crazy heavy gauge bass stings and all they had on the racks were 120 and I needed 130, (i know silly right?) so an employee told me they had some behind the counter and hooked it up. Initially I was going to get the single 130 and a pack of 5 string DHR when he suggested to just get the other singles saving me around 20 bucks. Win. Then after my purchase I noticed a nice cold Dr Pepper in the cooler they have near the door. I told them I would like to buy one and apologized as my transaction had already gone through and they were going to have to run my card again. The employee said no worries it’s on the house. WIN WIN! I have been a loyal customer for year’s, though I don’t stop in there enough for them to know who I am, so please don't take the impression that I'm getting preferential treatment. I have done trades, which is always a concern to me about getting the true value back and have also ordered replacement part / speakers, and every time they are there helping me suggesting ideas and just over all are great people. They have always been very sincere and very kind. They are also great for selling or trading gear as well as ordering parts. I would suggest to anyone looking for a great place to buy musical gear or looking to take lessons to go to Musicians Discount.

http://www.musiciansdiscount.com/body.htm

thursday get out of work run home double check everything is ready, the other dudes took the day off to rent the van and load, they pick me up and we are off into rush hour traffic leaving phoenix, good thing our set isn't till 9pm i mean how long does it really take to get to greater LA area, after a somewhat uninteresting drive we arrive to find that pavement is playing a block away one direction and she and him is playing a block away the other direction. we are in pomona and for some reason everybody is giving me a hard time about calling it panama. there was a jazz band playing and lot's of 30 something’s drinking wine and talking about their 30 something lives. i was pretty amped to melt their faces. assuming they would hang around long enough after the jazz band to catch us. had a beer and then walked down to a taco place that sold tongue, yum. after deciding that we would rather eat the over price peanut butter and jelly sliders at the bar we saw some punks and were feeling better about playing to more then just members of the other band. dogs of ire opened up and the place emptied except for the folks who came to see the rock. Pavement let out and some lookie loo's helped fill the gaps. We had a few beers then Christina who booked the show gave us a 12 pack of PBR tall boys for when we played, "how nice" i thought, and then figured we were not going to get paid. We played representing az with our state flag flying high behind the drums. this dude who was standing up front asked us to play his going away part saturday afternoon, "is it on the way to long beach, sure we can do that" afterwards the owners were surprisingly cordial and smiley and gave us 80 bucks, nice. Christina took us to crash at her place in riverside. the next morning her roommate Mitzky (sp?) made us some great chorizo and eggs, and we hung out and played their records all morning. Christina had to go work at Coachella so we said thanks and goodbye. then off to the guitar shop for drum sticks david forgot and some new picks for me. our next drive was to isla vista, the place ebullition records is from and the famous pickle patch venue. how could such music come from such a sunny beachy long board party town? i have no idea. the drive was supposed to take 2 and half hours and became close to 5, due to wonderful traffic jams. we got there found the house we were to play, walked down the street so the dudes could get some vietnamese food, i opted for a beer. went down the beach took some obligatory tourist pictures and went back to the house where the show was to be at. one of the people who lived there made lentils lettuce and rice that was pretty taisty. arctic choke, a power violence band from santa barbra hooked us up with the show. after a few pbr's and a bottle of champagne, we played, immediately the kids broke into a circle pit stirred up by a couple of up the punx. i ended up in the pit with my bass banging around with them. must of had something to do with the champagne. nameless nights (ex graf orlock) also played. while i was watching our gear someone inside put their fist through a wall during one of the other bands sets, i thought damn these kids are going crazy for this stuff. little did i know how the next day would play out. after the show some folks kept trying to get us to go to parties, which i guess is what you do in isla vista, there was literally a party at every other house, cory and i were tempted to go in one, but decided it better we didn't. we stayed at one of the dudes from arctic choke's house and i guess i booted some deadbeat off the couch to sleep. sorry dude, i was on tour, you were just couch surfing. so after a bite to eat we headed back to riverside, we call up mikey from rumspringer who told us we "had" to hang out with some of his friends. got to their house played croquet while blasting face to face and drank beer while we waited for the afternoon show. they are serious about their croquet in riverside let me tell you. so time rolls around for us to go two blocks to the house show and we descend on the party like a midwestern tornado. people are drinking whiskey and pbr like it was going out of style. crowd surfing in the living room circle pit counter clockwise, i know counter clockwise right? people pouring jamesone in us as we are playing. dude what was happening and why was it only 4:30 in the afternoon and why isn't it happening back home? so we finish up our set and head up to long beach for our night show, david being the only responsible one took on the task of babysitting us. we roll into town and david is driving fast and bam, eric yells "dude! careful" as david had just hit a parked car with the side mirror. we find the place we are playing and of course no parking, so we park in the middle of the street, unload gear till a car comes, then david drives around the block to let traffic through then pulls back around so we can get more gear out. finally we get everything outside the place and some dude comes out and says the show is canceled as the land lord threatens eviction if the show continues. bummer. so we pack up and go to some diner where we see the cast of 90210, ok not the real cast but basically a bunch of high school kids hanging out like in the movies. oh and our waiter face was on the menu. it looked like him and we said "are you the dude on the menu?" and he was all "yea...." the rest of the trip was pretty uneventful as we basically went back to one of the dudes from nameless lights house, watch the rest of saturday night live go to sleep, wake up the next morning and came home. it was short but super fun. go on tour, take the state flag and represent. and don't say anything about the side mirror being broken, they missed it in the return inspection, yes!
