i'm tired of getting haircuts every few weeks, i'm not going to do it anymore.

how long did you guys take to grow your hair out fully? i'm hoping to at least have it to ponytail length by magfest. i've done it once before, in 2000 (i looked like a girl, seriously), but it took a long time because my hair kept breaking, like 2 years to get to my shoulders. and half ended up in the shower drain, even if i was gentle when brushing. what should i do this time to help keep it from breaking.. conditioners? protein supplements? sacrifices to hsuan wen-hua, the chinese hair god?

any tips appreciated.

i think i'm cutting mine soon. i just stopped getting haircuts because i always hated the result. i only got one haircut after deciding to go long, and that was to trim it up a little bit.

i don't really have any tips for you, i just use whatever shampoo is available.

i've tried to do long hair, but it really just pisses me off because i need to, you know, take care of it and everything. it's actually pretty damn short right now for me, but i usually don't get haircuts for about 6 months at a time. but i'm sure mig or daemon or someone else will be able to provide you with some fine man-hair growing tips.

When I had my hair long, it took me about 3 years to get it down just below my nipples. another year or two to get it down to my waist.

I washed my hair nearly every day, but I also used conditioner every day. It strengthened my hair and helped it stay nice and thick.

I suggest getting a micro trim every other month to get rid of split ends and to ensure that your hair grows out more evenly. The healthier your hair is from the root to the tip, the quicker it will grow, the more metal you will be and you won't turn out like a cute little chimp.

I can't really give you hair tips. I grew my hair from what you might call a 'skinhead', and haven't had it trimmed since I started letting it grow. It's all curly and unkempt - I'm just a tramp really.

Since I haven't had any trims, it has grown kinda slowly really. It's near my nipples like the chap above, but it's taken about 4-5 years to get to this point. I grew mine out of laziness rather than notions of metal chic.

Hope that helps. :P

It took me about 6 or 7 months to get to the attatched pic (starting from a buzz cut). Only time in my life I had long hair, I conditioned every day and it was very very nice and strong.

But I went back to the buzz, it's a lot more practical, but I may revisit the days of long hair again. Either way, grow a beard.

um, remember my hair at magfest?

that was 3 years of growing (i started bald) without any trimming. i brushed it a couple times a day so it wouldnt' feel gross and i used pert plus in the shower.

so...um...yeah.
you mean you forgot cranberries too?

Also, I don't think the hair loss you mentioned (Virt) matters in the long run, since hairs grow back every 2 years or something. I lose loads of strands every day...

Just get your split ends trimmed (as has been suggested). Are you just growing out the whole mat? Or will it be stylistically long? For example, when I grew my hair out, I'd get the sides shaved (a little higher with each trip) and have it trimmed then. I did this for about 5 years.

If nothing else, just sleep in Mayonnaise and all will be well.

I get my hair trimmed about every six months, about 3 or 4 inches. At that point the ends have usually started splitting, and it's feeling just too damn long. It took me probably a good three years to get it to its present length, and I've had this for a couple years. I don't intend to cut it any time soon. What I do to maintain my hair is minimal. I don't wash it every day. In fact it looks and feels better the day after I wash it. I always use shampoo and conditioner, the same kind together (I don't mean those crappy 2 in 1 things!). I keep several different kinds and change every few weeks, because that seems to help for some reason. For me, there's always a thick clump of hair that I pull out of the drain (ewww!) when I wash it, but my hair is as thick as it always was, so it doesn't worry me. I really only brush it after I wash it, and then I usually keep it tied back because my hair has a terrible tendency to fall straight down in front of my face. (When I'm performing live I don't get nervous because I can't see the audience. But then again, I can't even really see my guitar either.)

I say go for it, man. It's the way of the Alpha-Male. I only once thought of cutting all of it off because of a job. But then I rehearsed with my band with my hair down, heavy headbanging, and then decided against the job. The though hasn't crossed my mind since.

Uh.. weeks? I get mine cut every few months or so.

(I guess if your hair grows faster than mine, that could be why...)

I remember I had this tape years and years ago, god only knows why, by a band called "Shitscum". I think they were Boston local.

They were aptly named.

But they had this one song "Hair is Queer"

It was a very melodic sing along of "Hair is Queer" repeated over and over, till the chuggy break-down section where "If you have hair--you're a queer!" was aggresively repeated.

Now I had nordic warrior hair at the time, but i still though it was hilarious.
