Oh p'shaw, this is a discussion forum, we're all allowed to express ourselves. I say, rant away. And I'm just ranting so I'll shut up.
Edited: I find that calling chiptunes a hobby implies more seriousness, and love. I certainly don't take my chiptunes lightly. I spend nearly 10 to 80 hours on every track I make.
When you look at the history of chiptunes so far, and you see what people have made for the sheer love of it, I think that speaks a lot about what chiptunes are. People are willing to devote huge blocks of time and effort to construct pieces that 99% of people will dismiss anyway. So why do they keep writing music that way?
Because they like the way it sounds, and there is nothing out there like it. That's the mentality I love about chiptunes.
