And I'm just ranting so I'll shut up.

Oh p'shaw, this is a discussion forum, we're all allowed to express ourselves. I say, rant away.

Edited: I find that calling chiptunes a hobby implies more seriousness, and love. I certainly don't take my chiptunes lightly. I spend nearly 10 to 80 hours on every track I make.

When you look at the history of chiptunes so far, and you see what people have made for the sheer love of it, I think that speaks a lot about what chiptunes are. People are willing to devote huge blocks of time and effort to construct pieces that 99% of people will dismiss anyway. So why do they keep writing music that way?

Because they like the way it sounds, and there is nothing out there like it. That's the mentality I love about chiptunes.

chippy alice in chainsy! cool

so thats like s really extreme noise channel thing happening. it awesome, but it feels maybe slightly over-used imo. i love it in the main riff, but then in the others i think i need a break from it. except the times it sort of slithers in to transition sections.

this is a good project

seems it would support vocals ok.

Exactly. The scene and the people in the scene have put in so much effort at creating beautiful, emotional music for so many years with little to no fanfare other than from those within the scene. Do chiptune artists deserve more praise? Oh hell yes. Starscream is one of my favorite chiptune acts. They've put out three amazing cosmic chip albums. And now their hard work, and possibly the hard work of the scene in general, is going to be marginalized by a pretty mediocre and hokey cover of "Shout". On top of that, the song in question is background music for a crappy teenage drama scene. The chiptune scene is breaking mainstream not by the hard work and worthiness of the artists and the music, but by a cover of a Tears For Fears song on fucking Skins. Blech. I'm not worried about popularity, I'm worried about marginalization and under-appreciation.

Riders, digging the new tune. Agree with cetera though, the noise is a bit much.

Honestly, I'm not sure why you care what Moldilox prefers from his chip music.

I'm not usually one to take a jab at someone on this forum just because I disagree with them, but I think I speak for at least a portion of folks here when I say "we get it". We know you're not satisfied with your music sales and the scene as a result of it, but constantly reminding us is really starting to get old.

Why? Because you have a differing opinion? I mean really this is just me and Norrin saying our side and you are the other side. And I'm just really bored and don't feel like working on other stuff so I'm wasting time on the shizz. It's something I care a lot about but it's not like I am super bent out of shape about it and will burn bridges with those that don't agree.

I like success. Success is good. It's good for people to get paid so that they can keep doing what they love. In my current band we have discussed how we would be cool with selling our music for car commercials and stuff. Not because we want to sell out but because we want to make money so that we can continue making music. Because we aren't making money, I'm leaving the band so that I can move across the country and hopefully find a job. It sucks, because I like those dudes a lot and we've really been shifting things around and just starting to make them work better than ever. So I certainly don't blame people for taking money for their music. But we're just a pop/rock band and we're not gonna break any barriers and if we get popular we aren't gonna open up a whole new world of music. But the chip scene is still mostly hidden from pop culture, and when moments of first contact come it would be awesome if they could be to show off the best and brightest, not a Tears For Fears cover on one of the worst shows ever.

1) Fuck you.
2) I don't give a shit about Moldilox or what he prefers from anything. That wasn't directed at him, just the overall vibe I'm getting from this thread and this place.
3) This has nothing to do with music sales at all. It has everything to do with the scene, because I've been busting my ass trying to put together a scene in LA, playing shows, trying to book shows, organize compilations and get artists motivated and I'm tired of the mentality that people who are barely even associated with the scene have. Especially you video game music people.

Seriously, fuck this place.

Well then I really think you should specify your ramblings a bit more. It sounds to me as though you should be saying "Fuck LA" if you're unhappy with your geographical location and the level to which your music is received there, but when you make a crybaby post following something that someone else posts then you've got to understand how that might be misconstrued.

If you're just needing to vent, that's fine, but I think you owe it to the shizz to preface your rants with a warning or something. The people here have been nothing but supportive to you (personally, if not financially) and I don't think I or anyone else here deserves a "Fuck you" from the great Wizwars.

Welcome to the world of music? My town has been trying to build a music scene for years with little result. People don't support local music. It sucks. Building a scene is hard. I'm not sure what mentality I or others have that is so offensive, or that specifically "you video game music people" might have.

Sorry you feel that way dude. I think this place has been pretty damn supportive of you over the years. Is it my fault your scene isn't working out because I don't want to see Starscream on Skins?

wow, wiz. you're probably having trouble getting your scene together because no one wants to follow the lead of such a huge asshole.

The LA / Socal Scene is great. I'm not sure where you read otherwise. I didn't say I was "failing" at getting my scene going, just that I'm putting a lot of work into it, and a lot of us are pushing to get into the LA Times and such, to which I don't really understand why people have this idea that trying to find fame or popularity is a bad thing. Any exposure is good exposure. But I am an asshole, so that's a fair assessment.

The people here have been nothing but supportive to you (personally, if not financially) and I don't think I or anyone else here deserves a "Fuck you" from the great Wizwars.

HA! The Shizz doesn't give a fuck about me or my music. I've become a joke at this place. When I used to release shit for free my threads and posts got attention. As soon as I started selling music, I noticed a sharp drop in people giving a shit about my music (and this was even before I started being a crazy asshole so we can't even blame that). I'm not a part of your little "club". I see you guys post your tracks in here every day and suck each others cocks about how great they are, anytime I post a track asking for CC I'm lucky if I get one post in response. So Don't pull the "we've been nothing but supportive to you" card. It's a crock of shit.
