The english release, FFII, had dumbed down translations, at least in the US. Not sure about the european version.

Yeah, that's FF2. If they're making a port of FF4, it's not going to be of FF2.

Well from what I gathered, even though he said FF4, he was talking about FF2. But I could be wrong.

No, you're right. I guess I should have said FF2 (US). Blame the confusion on my laziness of typing and lack of choosing better words.
bah and I hate CG cutscenese that were added in the rereleases of the older games.

comparative pics off FF3 (J) with the new FFIIID <- have no clue if that is official. I just saw it and thought oooh 3-D!

Kind of off topic, but does anyone know if the snes final fantasy 4/2 ntsc release had different versions? The reason I ask is in the original version I had way way back when I beat the game I'd be like level 39 or so and that'd be more than enough. I lost that copy and the one I have now I'm about level 60 when I beat the game, if I even tried to fight the last guy at 39 I'd more than likely get pwned. It isn't about how much I level either, both ways I play the exact same, no level crunching, just killing whatever I walk into while doing my quest (cept in the cave with the trap doors, always kill em all for massive exp)

Wow...I'm not sure what to think about the FF3 remake graphics. I was expecting sprites, but then I couldn't justify releasing it for DS and not just GBA with the rest. This makes a lot more sense...but it looks a bit hokey...good thing I beat it back when it was translated, I'm unsure about this

I am not very happy with what Square is doing with FF3 on the DS.
I'm afraid that the changes they're making to it are too drastic.
It's as if were aren't going to be playing the same game anymore.

I strongly believe that if they were going to re-release this game, they should have kept the game the way it was; in 2D, with crappy sound and crappy graphics.
I feel like I'm getting ripped off.
I wait all this time for this game to come to my country, and now I find out that it isn't even the same game I've been expecting all this time.

How long will I have to emulate this game?!

All I ever wanted was to have Final Fantasy III on a cart...

I hear you bro, but crappy sound? One of the FFIII boss themes is so damn awesome :)

I meant crappy sound-quality, by today's standards at least.
I think FF3's music is excellently composed.
And I too love the boss music...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't most of you have prefered if FF3 was given the same treatment Square gave Dawn of Souls and is giving to FF4 now?
Update the graphics to SNES quality sprites, resample the music at higher quality and with better sounding synth, and that's it!

I don't like the fact that this is our first release of the game, it would have been better if we had a 2d version so everyone knows what its like, then bring in a 3d. I for one would love to see 3d versions of any of the old final fantasy games.

im ok with the way it looks. for being on the DS, i think this is the best idea they could have gone with. however, i think that a very nice bonus would be the original game unlocked after you beat the remake or something. though i doubt square would bother to translate the old game just as a bonus.

That would be awesome, but then again I wonder how inclined I'd be to play it again after just beating it....I remember it being a rather longass game!

did the characters always have those asstastic last names?

that's what i was wondering...

The answer would be yes.
I think IV was the first FF to have characters with last names...then again I never played II or III.

I remember last names for the characters in FF6 during the credits. But i beat and played FF4 much more than FF6, or any other FF for that matter, I dont remember having ever seen last names at all. Cecil Harvey?! WTF is that!
