Not sure if I mentioned yet, but I am currently devouring the entire run of Kirkman's INVINCIBLE and loving it. Something very special about this book. Fun to read, great character designs, solid dialogue, and despite the occasional moments of intense gore, it's a fairly family friendly read. With the exception of Space Dinosaur**, Kirkman is batting a thousand with me.

**I've got as much business reading Space Dinosaur as I do waking up early on Saturday to watch cartoons. I'm definitely not the demographic on that one.

i have been reading INVINCIBLE from the beginning, and can say i prefer it to WALKING DEAD by a great amount. (they started the same time) the thing that makes it so good is that real, actual change happens, as opposed to any big two stuff. and he has quite possibly built the richest, most 'traditional' silver age style cast outside of them as well! my only gripe is that the new colorist is more modern/'realistic' and i preferred the day glo, flat colors that made things more distinct. if you are catching up, i dont thiink the color change happened until around #80 or so

Djinn also got me on Invincible, and I'm hooked. I started yesterday and blazed through about 21 issues in no time. So much fun!

I got up to volume 6 on Invincible and I really like it. It's quite similar in some ways to parts of Savage Dragon, which was always my favorite comic in the 90's. I'm hoping to order a few more volumes soon, because like the Walking Dead, it's easy to tear through Kirkman's stories once you start. He's great at writing stories that leave you wanting more.

The last thing of Kevin Smith I read was Batman: Cacophony.
I then swore to never read a Kevin Smith comic again.

also, i keep fearing that some spiteful friend will buy me the deluxe hardcovers of Kevin Smith's Batman stuff as a hateful gift sometime. I'll just get them in the mail with no return address and no clue who is harassing and torturing me.

i got a limp bizkit album once for my birthday with the receipt taped to it 'just so you have to go to a store with this in hand' once, so i think you may have left yourself wide open for this kind of vicious behavior from a 'friend'

I really hope I get Creeper for a future Secret Santa

my dream gift for creeper is to get him the deluxe hardcover of Batman: The Widening Gyre and arrange an appearance on Comic Book Men so that he may get it signed.

I enjoyed the first trade of Invincible, look forward to the rest. Unforunately I read a FCBD issue that took place after a major arc and had a pretty huge spoiler in it. Oh well, still a good read.

Read through the whole Weapon X miniseries again after almost a decade. Still love the shit outta that book.

Weener picked up the first HC collection of INVINCIBLE at the lib used store for $15.
I have been so backed up on floppies I still haven't gotten to it more then a flip thru, plus I'm still not done w/ Sometimes a Great Notion (great read but so dense).
My backlog is getting embarrassing.

And, on the other hand, I might pick up the first issue of the new Popeye mini from BOOM today, because Roger Langridge's Muppets stuff was so great.
I have no idea what else is out.

I was poking around the library and found a bunch of Alan Moore books I'd never seen before. The first was Wild Worlds, a collection of Image comics that he wrote in the 90'd and... well, that one I could have done without. Some members of the Wildcats come back to 1996 from 2015 to stop Spawn from becoming some horrible overlord and one of them just keeps talking with this terrible computer slang ("I can't download this, man!" "Did your hard drive crash or something?" etc etc, BARF). Not even going to finish it.

However, I also read the first trade for Promethea and it was pretty cool. The dialogue is much more fluid and it's a pretty interesting idea. Also read some Tom Strong which is just a series of short stories about Tom Strong, Young Tom Strong and Jonnie Future. They're very retro post modern and don't take themselves too seriously. Definitely an entertaining read.

Daredevil update:

as much as i disliked the Smith story, the David Mack arc right after it was pretty awesome. It's clear the book was in the hands of a writer who had a clear vision of what he wanted to do. The book, though still with the same artist, was beautiful, with creative layouts and changes in style, from normal, to painted, to sketchy and photo-referenced, to child's drawings. And it all worked really well together. It also introduced an interesting, memorable new character in Echo, and gave a lot of interesting background on the Kingpin. A mini origin story, as it were, on how he became the Kingpin.

I recommend checking it out. The trade is called Daredevil: Parts of a Hole, if anyone is so inclined. Now, we move into the Bendis stuff.

Is that the same Echo from Bendis' run on this Moon Knight book that's drawing to a close?

ambled around All About for a bit after work.
Thumbed thru the first issue of Popeye but decided to hold off for FCBD before picking it up.
Looks pretty solid, a dense read, layout very 'sunday comic strip style'.
--Aside: The Popeye website is pretty nicely designed, has merch and updates abot his animated life, but doesn't seem to mention this new series at all?

I did see that there was a nice--almost Essential's thick--collection of Bill Mantlo's HULK run, covering issues 269-285, packages as PARDONED.
16 issues for $40 bucks (or $27 via Amazon preorder). That's not bad, esp if Mantolo would be getting a writer's percentage to help w/ his lifelong medical needs (explained here if you hadn't heard and want to be depressed).
I'd have to think about that buy, as I am sure I could probably put most of the whole run together for cheap in back issue bins anyway, and therefor support my LCS w/ out handing more money directly to Marvel.
There's already a follow up volume solicited that covers his run to issue 300, which is one of the comics that just blew my mind as a kid: basically hulk f*cks up everyone in the Marvel U until Dr. Strange pops him into a micro barbarian world for a few years.
I've been itching to read these comics and study Mantlo's style as I think I could learn from him.

i picked it up on a whim. it is pretty much as you guessed. i enjoyed it but i'm not sure if i'll get the rest. maybe.

i picked up that 3 STORIES one-shot from last week, dang that was pretty neat. i also grabbed Peter Bagge's RESET, which was a cool little indie-style Total Recall type story except replace Arnold with a washed up comedian and replace killing with self-loathing.

oh yeah it took me a week to get around to DB COOPER #2 but damn was it good. UGH.
