what did you guys think of the series after it shifted way into the future? i thought it was still interesting, but it lost a lot of its initial appeal to me.

I enjoyed the whole series, but definitely liked the first half much more. I think the animated series chose a good place to end, even if they did alter the ending slightly. I read the entire series in a very short time, so it's all kind of blending together in my memory, but I definitely remember liking Julie's story/struggle way more than Sara's.

The first half of the Bone series was a really funny and original read.

I was thinking about mentioning Bone earlier.. I remembered a few people from a different forum talking how much they liked Bone and how the 1000+ page One Volume Edition was recently released. It was only ~$25 on Amazon so I picked it up with my last order. It's a pretty cool Lord of the Rings-esque fantasy story which I enjoyed a lot, and $25 for 1000 pages is a great price. I'm the type of person who usually prefers things to be a little more dark and sinister, but even the light-hearted sections (which is most of it) were a good. I've seen two other stories in the Bone universe.. One about Rose's backstory, and another prequel about a different Bone. Has anyone here read them? I'm probably going to by myself a stack of graphic novels for xmas, but I'm not sure if they're worth picking up. They're also re-releasing the single volumes in color now, but you can get the full series in b&w for the same price a single volume or two.

Also, has anyone tried the Bone adventure game? I played through the demo and it was a neat idea, but I didn't feel very compelled to purchase the full version. Especially since it only covers the first (of seven?) books. I'd recommend trying it out for fans of the series, as it seemed pretty faithful.

One last thing.. Did anyone else notice Grandma Ben in one of the final Sandman books? I forget if it was volume 10 or Endless Nights, but she was working at an inn. She was only in a few frames, but I'm fairly certain it was her.

i wish i had read sandman, i remember seeing it when it first came out but it seemed too grown up for me at the time.

and i agree that the animated series ended at a good point, but the subsequent comics also changed about characters that gave them more depth.

'The Sentry' miniseries by Marvel a few years back was one of the coolest series they ever made. Creating a character that existed in the 60's believably and weaving him into Marvel Legend and not screwing up anything was most impressive.

I dunno if you know, but The Sentry is now a member of the New Avengers, and the story arc where they bring him into the team is so awesome how they make him exist in the past without ever having (really) existed before.

The best manga/graphic novel ever is Battle Angel Alita 1-9. Ever.

http://www.rippersanime.com/

The art is amazing.

The world it's in is awesome.

The stories are violent and touching at the same time.

And they just keep getting better until it ends so good, I won't even read the new series.

If anyone has any more awesome links to free graphic novels/manga don't be shy!

Too be good is to be free, not of talent or wealth or want, which cannot be promised or accurately proscribed, but of personal choice, which unfortunately is promised even less.

The last graphic novel (series) that I've read from start to finish was Preacher. The artwork is beautiful, and it has a cool storyline. Now I am starting to read the Hellblazer series, which seems to be in the same vein of f'd upedness as preacher. Love it. Can't get into Sandman though, perhaps because my little brother and sister like it so much.

When I was younger I collected mainly TMNT - the original black & white series, Batman - was a big fan of legends of the dark knight, Groo - very funny comic, and sometimes spiderman, x-men, spawn, sleepwalker, infinity gauntlet, e.t.c.. TMNT and Batman were always my fav, though. Oh but I did collect Marvel cards for a time. Me and my friend used to make a game out of it. We'd pit our collections against each other and heroes/villains would win or lose battles based on their stats and innate abilities. It was fun.

Anything Neil Gaiman does (be it comics, novels, screenplays) is the shit. Particularly The Dream Hunters. Yoshitaka Amano's artwork is nothing short of amazing.

what issues of what did that occur in? I'd like to pick that up.

my favorite mangas are FLCL, Ranma 1/2, and Excel Saga. FLCL is just hilarious but the anime is a bit better (a rare occurance). Ranma 1/2 is probobly one of the best series ever in existance, it does it all. Excel Saga i saw the series first and they referenced to the manga a lot. once you read the manga a lot of little inside jokes they put in. i read the sonic comics when i was growing up and also spider man. Carnage was my favorite villan EVER for the longest time.

The Sentry comes back in the first few issues when there's a breakout on the Raft at Riker's Island (Sentry comes out and rips Carnage in half, pretty badass), but he comes back (issues 7-10 being the arc I was talking about, bringing him onto the team and what-have-you). On top of that they recently began a Sentry mini series that really lights up his character and that I highly recommend (it's only on #2 right now, so it's a good time to jump on if you're interested).

Lets see what could we talk about now?

I finished up with Watchmen so my friend lent me Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Ronin. Just finished DKR yesterday and it was way better than I was expecting. It reminded me of Sin City (the movie) in a lot of ways, which I suppose makes perfect sense. I hadn't read any Frank Miller before, but I'm definitely craving more. Whenever I get around to ordering some more stuff I'm getting a copy of 300 for a friend, so I can give that a quick read before I pass it on.

I was told that The Dark Knight Strikes Again isn't nearly as good Dark Knight Returns and that I shouldn't really bother with it. Anyone want to confirm or deny this?

The Dark Knight Returns is a great read, but I would hesitate to recommend The Dark Knight Strikes Again (the sequel). The story was definitely not that great.

yeah, skip it. might be worth a read, but not worth buying.
