Don't most programmers who program stuff for big name games or whatever not even OWN what they create? I was under the impression that 99.99% of anyone who makes something for a company, doesn't actually own the rights to their own work. The company does unless they work out a contract that states otherwise.
As for pirating, don't do it. If not because of the immorality of it, then because of 17 U.S.C. §504©As for pirating, do it.
Also, I think there's a fair number of programmers here, who generally aren't that sympathetic toward infringing copyrights. (There's obviously exceptions, but most programmers want some control over what they write, and most aren't hypocrites, IME.)
So you might find you're on the wrong end of a frown or two saying things like that, Brandon.
Edit: Full disclosure, I sometimes share some music ripped from CD with friends.
Like how you see copyrights for Yuzo Koshiro on some games IE Bare Knuckle/Streets of rage.

Yeah, that's pretty much true, to the best of my knowledge. I don't own anything I programmed until a couple years ago.
You know what never gets played out? Debates over software/music/etc piracy. Forum gold!
Sorry! "As for pirating, do it" rubbed me the wrong way.
Well, I'm not really "sorry", so I shouldn't say that, but I will be quiet. I need to stop foruming anyway. Distractions, distractions, distractions . . .

Copyright for works made in the ordinary course of an employee's job belongs to the employer, unless there is an agreement otherwise.Don't most programmers who program stuff for big name games or whatever not even OWN what they create? Copyright in certain works-for-hire by a contractor belongs to the employer only when there is a written contract saying so.

When you enter the realm of selling burnt DVDs, then that's pirating, it's the attempt to make money off of it that is what can be malevolently affecting the e! industry's "business".
Otherwise, it can be considered a private viewing, regardless of method of non-physical data transfer and level of anonymity.
So long as the content originally came from a Disk, Cassette, DVR Recording or other legal source.
At least this is the stance I would take on it, in summary; it's about evolution of the mind and the ability to intake large amounts of data without relenting or becoming too tangential to be effective.
EDIT: And yes, Entertainment is a large part of this, as this is part of intaking information, and it's as large a part of your life as you make it. Unfortunately in this sedentary society, we have a lower lowest common denominator which turns to Television programming or a feature film rather than a educational source of information; so it is a VERY large part of our society.
In the information age, current copyright laws are obsolete in every sense of the word, not to mention just plain unconscionable when combined with the practice of the current profiteers.
EDITEDIT: Owow! Lookit Sam bein' all legal n' stuff!
That is good information to know!
Thank you!
