I think the lesson to learn here is that an RPG fanboy is the worst kind of fanboy.
That's not directed at anybody in this thread, btw.
Say it to my face!

I went into Xenoblade with no expectations; I was just curious to see what the hype was about. I'm not that far in (20 hours, but most of that was spent on side quests and stuff, because that's easy enough to do in what limited time that I have had available). But so far, I LOVE this game. I am more excited about this game that I have been in a long time. The characters, the story, the music. Oh the music; I've had this one song in my head for at least a week, now (probably more), and I have no complaints.4So is it really the best RPG of this generation?? Does it live up to the HYPE??

Maybe things take a turn for the stupid as the game progresses, but so far, I highly recommend this game to everyone.

It may tread some familiar ground, but the most interesting aspect of the story is its setting. How about the story? Hopefully not generic JRPG stuff?

I'm sure that that's true. But right now, I am motivated my revenge. That scene had serious emotional impact. You're motivated only by revenge, at first, but you eventually learn the situation is a lot more complicated than first suspected.

Better than Lost Odyssey...I was bored and hungover yesterday so I decided to give Last Story a whirl. This is probably the best game Sakaguchi's made since he was still working for Square. The battle system is highly addictive and the story is decent so far.

I put almost no effort into completing any sidequests when I was playing and it still took me over 80 hours to beat it.I'm 90 hours in so far, I've done over 200 quests, and I just got my last party member (at about 85 hours in). It seems like I might maybe be approaching the end of the game at this point, but I think I'm nowhere near done with the quests and other side things you can do. Almost everybody loves Shulk, though (I'm talking about the party affinity).

Pretty much any quest I did complete was either mandatory to progress the story, or I finished it completely involuntarily.
Now I wonder how much longer it would have taken to complete the game if I had tried doing as many quests as possible?
I suppose the next time I play it I could put a bigger focus on doing sidequests.
Now that you have your last party member, you are pretty close to the end.
Even so, that may take another 15 to 20 hours.
I used Shulk, Reyn, and Sharla almost exclusively, so they were the only ones that had boosted their affinity at all.
Again, next time I ought to focus more on other characters.
I hear Dunban and Melia actually work well if you play as them rather than let the computer control them.
