Gah, I need to find time to finish my Kirby runs... anyone know of a good way to hook up a MacBook to a TV and record video? Or at least composite cables in general?

the only way i can think of is getting a tv tuner card with coax or composite in... then using the included software or something else to record it (maybe as mpeg2) then convert it to something else like divx or xvid or mp4 or whatever..

i refuse to watch kareshi speedruns until he starts including mp3 commentary tracks that i can play along with the video...

i refuse to watch kareshi speedruns until he starts including commentary tracks as alternative audio tracks in the videos...

i, however, will watch them with or without commentary.

are you doing a run on an emulator? if so, it won't be accepted by SDA, it'd be considered tool-assisted even if you don't use slowdowns or savestates

i'm so goddamned lazy that i refuse to watch kareshi speedruns until he starts including mp3 commentary tracks that i can play along with the video...

fine

you have to download one of the GNG runs from speeddemosarchive and start the playback when I say so on the commentary file

it doesn't work with the embedded flash version

i think he was playing it on the tv and console and having the video/audio output go to the macbook for recording... plus he says he did a run for sda earlier in the thread...

yeah you have no idea how awesome you are... <3

i wish more speedruns did this... i mean if you have nothing to talk about.. tell a joke.. tell me what you had for dinner... speedruns by themselves are kind of boring if you're watching it for half an hour..

i clicked through the mp3 and it sounds great... waiting on the download now...

My 'usual' setup for speedrunning is/was this: SNES feeds directly into a video distribution amplifier, allowing me to split the output into two streams: one goes to the TV, while the other goes to my PC, where I record using a TV tuner card that includes composite input and VirtualDub. However, the main problem is that my PC and TV are in separate rooms; connecting them requires moving the TV and SNES to my room next to my PC. Since my first runs, I've added more furniture and miscellaneous items, making it a lot harder for me to record my runs. However, I have a little bit of hope in getting my MacBook, since I can cart that over to my TV a lot easier. Unfortunately, I haven't found any way to connect composite video from my SNES into my MacBook for recording. Thus, the request. If I get motivated, I should probably ask on SDA or on some dedicated Mac sites.

commentary would be so BOSS! I would love that!

my favorite speedruns to watch are megaman, because its usually so hard for me and they can do it so freaking fast and make it look easy, or doom/quake, because I find it amazing how they can play at diagonals (apparently running diagonal makes you travel a little faster overall) and still manage to do everything, go everywhere, and shoot everything. O_O

I knew a guy at the place I used to work who would do speedruns of the megaman games on gameboyadvance.
I'm not really a speedrunner myself, though I did once attempt to record an entire playthrough of the final fantasy games on VHS... it worked okay, but the quality wasn't great and after doing the runs I'm so familiar with the games I dunno if I'd ever watch the tapes :P

I submitted my 3:58 Jaws run for verification at speeddemosarchive because I don't want to try another 1000 times to beat that time. So now I get to wait for a while.

I'd actually watched your other one Kareshi. I didn't even know it was yours until I was finished watching it. You slayed that game!

Goldeneye is the one of the most competitive games to speedrun, ever. Congratulations on all your times and your tied/untied WR's.

I've been there many times and tried a few levels. I had to try speedrunning them to see how exact every movement is in the WR videos. I'm really bad at running that game, and it's too competitive for me. But I can appreciate all the practice and work that goes into it.

I recorded a 1CC of Gradius II (arcade) a while ago, but as the scrolling is fixed I'm not sure that's what you're after.

I also can't find the bloody file. :(
