Final Fantasy Legends 2, best GB music ever.

Said it for me already. Seriously, the FFL series has some pretty good music. Also, Metroid II is in fact underappreciated. Hip Tanaka said he was initially trying to create a soundtrack for the first Metroid that was indistinguishable from the sound effects, to make the soundtrack seem like a living being. They definitely came a lot closer with Metroid II. I really like that Ruins music too, how come Metroid Metal hasn't covered it already?!

EDIT: I just realized that this is a GB/GBC-exclusive thread, so excuse my list for the GBA games. ^_^,,V,

Funny, I was about to post a list similar to this, until I noticed I already posted my recommendations over a year ago.

Gosh, it seems like I haven't changed it a bit, but I know my music's gotten better at least. Oh well, some things are better kept the same.

Just found a better player from a Wikipedia link: NEZplug++

All the soundtracks I have that caused problems in Merdian work perfectly fine. PLUS it has channel muting:

1. Right-click the .gbs file in Winamp's playlist editor
2. Select "View File Info"
3. Select "Channel Mask"
4. Press the buttons for "DMG"

The settings won't last if you close Winamp, but they persist to different tracks and .gbs files in the same session. I only ended up finding this thing cause I needed something to play .gbr files, which are like .gbs files, but different somehow. .gbr is the only format I could find for Dragon Quest 1 & 2.

I like the music from Metroid 2

I made an absolutely hilarious Metroid 2 VGMix a few years back too, of the last area with the Omega Metroids.

Sweet, I'm digging track 13, neat 5/8 action. :)
The same composer did zan gear for the game gear, which is totally awesome and probably the best game gear soundtrack.

I knew I recognized the name, took me minute to figure out from where though.

I couldn't get the music out of my head, so I was sure to stay up stupidly late last night to rip it.

Definitely some of the more technically advanced game boy music I've heard. Parts sound a lot more like if someone were to make music for the gb today than a classic commercial product.

No love for Sword of Hope? It's in the style of the ICOM Simulations games (Deja Vu/Shadowgate/Uninvited), and some of the arpeggios are absolutely gorgeous. Its soundtrack is every bit as good as the soundtracks for those games.

Also, much love for the FFL games, FFA, CA2: Belmont's Revenge, Metroid II, and the opening track for Metal Gear: Ghost Babel. The MG:GB track is very basic, but it's right up my stylistic alley (which is probably why I like it so much). T9's pretty cool too.

For the Love of Creativity - updated September 6th, 2010 (new blog up about PAX weekend)!

Concatenation Records - updated August 2nd, 2010 with the release of Ryan8bit's new album 2010.8.2!

I should hopefully have at least one VG disc ready this year - it's a catch-all with half-old (but re-recorded/rearranged), half-new VG tunes from various systems. I'm still sorting through all the tunes, so if you have any suggestions - holla!

Songs left to do this year - what do you get when you cross an elephant and a rhino?

I'm really appreciating all the love for the FFL series. FFLIII was my personal favorite (Temple theme, Opening Music), but the others are equally well-written as well.

Don't forget all the jingles that Kirby's Dream Land spawned as well!

Metal Gear Solid (2000) (as it is called in the archive available in the first link) is definitely very awesome. For me it played at double speed unless you use that player that MooniniteG linked a few posts back.

And let me reiterate GARGOYLE's QUEST, I swear I am going to remix that one of these days (problem is it's not really suited to my style).

Metal Gear Solid/Ghost Babel works fine for me in Audio Overload, but that's my default player for everything (since it seems to play what I listen to - GBS, NSF, SPC, VGM, etc).

Yeah that MGS soundtrack is great, I'll have to rip that soon. Borrows some stuff from the metal gear 2 msx soundtrack, which rules.

Currently listening to Puzzled track 8, man is that one awesomely chill track.

top! don't have nearly as much gb stuff up as I do NES, but wanted to embed some cool youtube tracks I've since uploaded like in the obscure nsfs thread. (aka European composers appreciation happy hour)

Otto's Ottifanten - Kommando Störtebeker (composed by Stello Doussis)

Tintin - Le Temple du Soliel (Alberto Gonzalez)

Unfortunately the wav channel is a bit quiet in these rips (poor gbs emulation), something I didn't find out about until after. No more in_gbs for sampling! <_<
