I know there's a few baseball fans on here so I figured I'd start a baseball thread. Why? Because I'm excited about the season, that's why!

Let's kick this thread off right:

I'm pulling for the Phillies as my NL team this year. Ryan Howard is a mule.

it's hard not to get excited about the phillies if you are around philly. there's not much else to cheer for right now.

i gotta go to a few games this year.

also, i'm not expecting a huge year, but i'd like to see the pirates improve on their decent second half last year. it's pretty rare to have two good teams in PA in the same sport. also, their park is pretty great, and i need an excuse to go there when i'm out there.

PNC Park is hands down the nicest park I've ever been to. I went to a Red Sox-Pirates game when they did turn back the clock night, i.e. no PA, manual scoreboard, early 1900's uniforms and it was awesome. The douchewickets in front of us were not awesome, but hey they do have to root for the Pirates, so I'll cut them some slack.

have you been to Citizen's Bank Park yet?

man, i was blown away when I saw my first game there. doesn't seem to matter where you are in the park, you are close to the action. the 8 dollar beers, not so blown away. but what can you do.

I have not, but I went to the Vet the year it was blown up and it was probably the worst experience I've ever had at a game. In our seats no one was yelling and they were getting annoyed at our rooting. Then we walked around and got pelted with food and shit

I was later called a "fucking windbreaker kite flyer" later. Yeah me and Philly don't get along so much.

Creeper, I'm about 45 minutes away from Philly when I'm in Jersey... want to try to catch a game this year? We can make a mini-ECS out of it.

I've already been playing All-Star Baseball 2003 (the last one I got), yesterday I watched the Natural and talked to my friends (I'm a Yanks fan, one's a Mets fan, and the others a Red Sox fan), and we decided to get our World Series tapes from '75, '86, and '96, and I'm gonna get my This Week in Baseball 20th Anniversary tape, and my 20 Greatest Moments tape, and we're just gonna forget about homework and watch the fuckers!

Last year I got a Netflix account around this time so I could get Ken Burns' baseball.

Speaking of the Phils:

The story goes: A few guys were on a business trip in Pittsburgh. A couple of the guys knew the Phils were in town, so when they all spotted Burrell at a club there one night, it wasn't a total surprise. Pat ended up taking a liking to one of the girls in their group. She thought he was hot but didn't follow baseball. He took her back to his hotel room, and a make-out session ensued until she alerted Pat that she would NOT do him. Not fazed by this, Burrell seemed to respect her chastity, and rather than force himself on her or fly into a blueball rage, he asked a simple question, glancing down at his engorged pants: "Mind if I take care of business?"

Fucking awesome.

wow, that's pretty shitty. the security at the vet was terrible though, and it was dirty as hell. to the organization's credit, they've really done a lot better with security. they'll toss you for those same comments or visibly rude/drunken behavior now.

also, im pretty sure that wasn't a great year for the Phillies (2002 maybe? 2003 was better but they largely overachieved), and Philadelphia gets pretty indifferent or hateful when that happens.

EDIT: from wikipedia: "In his book, If Football's a Religion, Why Don't We Have a Prayer?, Jere Longman described the 700 Level as having a reputation for "hostile taunting, fighting, public urination and general strangeness." Due to an improvement in facilities, an increase in security, and a lower tolerance for fan misbehavior, there is no equivalent in either Lincoln Financial Field or Citizens Bank Park."

MGIZF.jpg

Colin, Matsu, and I went to a Fat party where everyone was pretty fat and I went to get a beer and this fat girl sat between Colin and Matsu on the futon and she sank while they were boosted up.
That party also had Fat Kareshi and we were all excited so when we left I said "bye Fat Kareshi!!" and he was all like "huaghaughahhaha byeeeeeee"

Oakland and San Fran offer free WiFi from the seats.

I'm a SF and Oakland fan being from the Bay Area and all. I'm not sure what to think of their chances this season, as the A's traded away Zito (to the Giants) and the Giants sound like they want to have a reunion tour or something.

SBC Park is one of the most awesome ball parks you can go to, though - right on the bay, and the home runs in right field go into the drink! I've been to a few games, including one where Durham and Bonds both went deep (against, Philly, actually, they lost to them 2-6) and I got a minor sunburn. Even met some decent Phillies fans, one who looked and talked like Tommy Lasorda. Pretty great experience, and I'm hoping to have that kind of time again somewhere in the span of this season.
