Yeah man, it's their chillest stuff. I saw them play the entire thing in 2003, I think... I liked that one because it was so much calmer than their other stuff, which had a really dissonant, repetitive, depressed, sad feel to it. Not fun.

I honestly don't like Blackwater Park or Deliverance at all. Listening to those albums was like walking and trudging through a big murky swamp of nothingness. Those albums are depressing as hell, haha. Still Life, MAYH, and Morningrise were great, but a lot of their stuff was WAY too depressing / sulky / dark / down-lifting. You know, opposite of up-lifting.

It was a trip when my 16 year old cousin brought up Opeth on Easter. He's doing it rigth. B)

My favorite of theirs is always going to be Morningrise (with Orchid a close 2nd), but I should probably catch up and check out what they've been doing lately since norg and I are going to go see them open for Dream Theater on Cinco de Mayo. Deliverance is the newer one I have (it and Damnation came out right around the same time), but I wasn't real impressed with it.

Blastbeats! Awesome.

The guitars are kinda far in the background though.

Edit: holy crap that keyboard/wah guitar bit was great

I think My Arms, Your Hearse is my favorite. It was when they really started playing around with the softer stuff, but it was still hard as hell. Quite a nice mesh. It had soft moments that seemed to be more heart felt due to how brash they were.

Man, I did a total 180 on Watershed. Burden IS gorgeous! I finally got the deluxe edition and I'm loving the covers at the end. I wish all metal albums were as well produced as this.

Holy four-year necrobump, matsu! Yeah, Watershed is great. Did anyone see them live during their latest tour? I saw a video of their performance in my area and Akerfeldt's growls sounded MILES better than they ever have. Pretty much praying for some righteous prog-death on their next album, even though he said he was never going to write another straight-up death metal album. Never said he wouldn't have deathy bits on another album!

Opeth has never written a straight up death metal album. I wonder if he meant his involvement in Bloodbath?

I saw them in Las Vegas and it was pretty damn awesome. That was the second time I saw them promoting Heritage and while I do like the album, it is far better to see Opeth perform it live. A lot of the songs have a new intensity that is lost on the record.

Last time I saw them was a couple of months ago, and they had an all-clean setlist. I was hoping for an encore with one of their heavier songs, but no.. Kind of disappointing. The songs were great though, so no biggie.

Yeah, their Heritage tour setlist was pretty mediocre by comparison, but their latest tour has evidently been one not to miss...and I missed it for the midnight showing of the Avengers.
