Every time my pool is almost clean, a wind storm comes along and blows a bunch of leaves into it. We have these big eucalyptus trees, they only seem to drop dead leaves when the wind blows.

I agree, though they're way, way, way more common in Phoenix than they would be in Seattle or anywhere else, other than maybe south Florida.

Lots of pools in Southern California, too. But again, if you can afford a house with a pool in Southern California, you're doing pretty good.

In-ground pools used to be a lot cheaper. That's why you see so many houses from the '60s-'80s with pools. That, and people had enough free time to actually enjoy them and perform the necessary maintenance.

Yeah, my house was built in 1980, the pool is original to the house I think. Do you know why they were cheaper back then?

I'm sure everything was just cheaper in general back then.

Less people in the world. The relative price of the square foot of unbuilt terrain was much cheaper, because there was no need to accomodate some many people.
Nowdays however, it's much more expensive. And you do need a bit more of terrain for a in-ground pool.

Which is why, they are still affordable on smaller towns, because there the price of the terrain is not so high.

The price of stuff like concrete has outpaced inflation for sure. Also, I'm pretty sure code has gotten stricter regarding pools. And you have to install fencing nowadays. Getting people to come out and excavate has gone up, and of course inflation is a factor. I bet the filtration/water circulation/heating equipment has gotten more expensive, too.

It also depends on what caused his throat to hurt and make him cough!

I dislike that society cares so much about numbers, especially those ending in 5 or 0. Many more people are interested in coming to a house that's for sale that is $200,000 rather than $201,000. It makes it so that if one ever has to lower their price, it pretty much has to be done in $10,000 increments to make any difference.
