I know this sport gets passed of as a kids game, or a goofy game, but it's actually as good a sport as any. It demands endurance, and either quick reflexes, a moster throw, or both. I was actually very suprised at the level of athleticism that is required. My whole body is usually sore after every game.

For the last 8 months I've participated in the Dodge ball league at my College / University. It easily shot itself up to my favorite sport of all time! We are going into the finals this tuesday, for the second term in a row. We won the whole thing last term, and we might just make it two in a row. Some of the guys on my team are just insane at the sport!

We play 6 on 6, with three lines. A centre line, where all balls start at the beginning of each round, and each side gets a line about 6 meters from their starting wall. As a player, you may run from your wall, to the opponents line (6 meters from their wall). This makes a wide open area in the middle which is a strategic neutral zone.

The game is absolutely thrilling. When you make an amazing catch, dodge or strike, there is such an ultimate feeling that is a lot harder to explain then I would have thought.

After every game, I am usually overwhelmed with flashbacks of plays I made, witnessed, or had done to me. There is a great element of strategy and team work than can be implemented, and the game flows so smoothly, and always plays out differently.

I don't think College Dodgeball is enough dodgeball for me anymore, and I am thinking of Joining the Vancouver league. But I hear those guys are monsters.

Just curious if anyone else plays Dodge ball now that they are an adult? I know there are community recreation centre leagues all over the place.

whoa, that's awesome man. it was always my favorite activity in school. i used to be pretty good, and can remember winning a couple free for alls with 30+ people. the strategy is pretty intense. it's been many years since i've played though..

is there anyway you can get some video recorded of those finals, Norrin? that would be tight.

Holy cow, good idea. I'll see if anyone on my team has access to some cameras or something. I'd love to check that out anyway. make sure I don't look like a goober when I play :P

So the team we play in the finals is the one team that beat us during the season play. The one game we lost. But I am pretty sure the team we just beat yesterday was the best team in the league (They were in tier 2, which we didn't play during the season games). They had one guy on the team that had to be a baseball pitcher in real life. He threw the ball so fast that you literally couldn't see it. He was really hard to defend against as well, because he could stand so far back that your peripheral vision couldn't see him. I was happily about to strike some guy out who wasn't looking when I got smashed in the face with a fast ball. It really felt like someone just smacked me in the face, semi squishy ball or not. Not to mention their captain was some super agile short guy that caught everything!

I don't think these guys we play in the finals stack up to that team from what I can remember, but I do know that we've progressed into a dodge ball wrecking machine, as a team. I can't fricken wait!

I liked dodgeball too. I remember so many times in elementary school when I mercilessly struck a kid with a ball and ended up mildly injuring them and making them cry during a game of dodgeball. I only felt minor guilt and just felt that was how the game went. Dodgeball was pretty much banned at schools by the time I was in 8th grade, supposedly because some people felt that it basically served as nothing more than a means for bullies to take their aggression out on nerds or something.

But that's like the kiddie dodgeball. Not really too familiar with dodgeball in a more professional context. I'd like to hear more about that in this topic.
Bingo... O ho ho ho!!

Oh man, i love dodgeball, we used to play it all the time in elementary and high school. Me and my friend Daniel used to be super animated and pretend it was a John Woo movie.

One moment that comes to mind was when i accidentally stepped over the middle line and the teacher blew his whistle, telling me to give the ball to the other team. So i just turn around to go into position and randomly throw the ball over my head, well it goes high and lands right on this little girl's nose and blood came out everywhere, i have no idea what happened, my theory is that she has some pointy boogers laying around in there

Enjoy the atmosphere you create for yourself around the holidays with all this pointless negativity.
Really, I mean it.

The video games are great.
The movie isn't that good.
Doing it live is pretty amazing.

Colin, Matsu, and I went to a Fat party where everyone was pretty fat and I went to get a beer and this fat girl sat between Colin and Matsu on the futon and she sank while they were boosted up.
That party also had Fat Kareshi and we were all excited so when we left I said "bye Fat Kareshi!!" and he was all like "huaghaughahhaha byeeeeeee"

i actually used to play a fuckload when i was living in catonsville. we have a local league here that has been running for a bunch of years now, one time i hit will oldham at dodgeball and didnt know it was him and people were acting like a gave the pope a piledriver or something. the league we have is awesome because sometimes there has been as many as 90 people coming out, and our league doesnt use one ball, we typically use about 10. here's the website for the league (b.a.d.a.s.s.), theres some cool videos and stuff on the page, check it out!

Ah, thanks for reminding me, Norrin! I forgot about the conversation we had regarding dodgeball. I'm still seriously considering joining up in this league that my friend is in. The way you describe it sounds like my kind of sport!

i cross'd a barrier into SCOOPvilLe yesterday and dunked with the best jammers and fresh dip ballers roundabout through an awesome bomb dunk party.

no way, its dudes and dudettes of all ages. i think will and i were the oldest heads there, but there was a few peeps that were right in our age there too. i think it was the best when there was about 75 kids showing up. we used to play at i think it was catonsville middle school for a while on frederick rd, and then it got moved to an indoor place for a while and everybody had to raise dues and stuff. i havent gone in about a year now, i should totally start going again.

I'd participate, but I have my own back problems and until I'm able to afford to find out what's wrong I have to be careful not to make it worse.

Maybe I'll go by there and watch sometime.

well you can also play an ender i think, which when you have that many different projectiles is what almost everybody ends up as after the first two minutes. part of the fun of our league is that with dodgeball, theres a lot of machoness that goes into it. getting pegged doesnt hurt as much physically as it does emotionally in most cases that i've seen, but dudes love to take hits regardless just because they think they can catch the ball. when you play with 10, 20 balls, people go out so fast that there are people playing a lot more as a team and less as a caveman. i think dodgeball is the best sport in the world because of the ways i've played it over the years and seen changes in the rule to make really awesome games. a lot of people come out to watch though too, mainly in the summer.
