Been thinking about this ever since Josiah posted about playing Super Metroid for the first time.

What are some "must play" games that you've avoided?

For me:
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
- This is probably most important to me. Played it a few times but I never had a GameBoy so it was always just a few minutes at a time.

Final Fantasy VI
- Actually played up to Kefka's tower about 10 times. Never beat it though!

Phoenix Wright
- Only played up though part of the 3rd case. Haven't played any of the others.

There's probably a lot more I could list.

Creeper knows that this is a chronic problem with me. Or it used to be. Now I just don't play a game or give up much sooner

but much more importantly, i got to the bar in snatcher a couple years ago, got sidetracked in life, and for some reason never went back and finished what was to possibly be one of the most bad-assical times evar.
i always think about it but it always gets over-ruled. wtf

Goddamn. I finally vowed to play through it when the GBA game came out. Played it HARDCORE... to Kefka's Tower. Then I was going to do some sidequesting and got distracted. I picked it up again later and couldn't remember what extra shit I had and hadn't done, and didn't feel like going to Kefka at the time... haven't touched it since.

I brought it with me when I moved, the ONLY GBA game I brought. So I must do it some day.

Obviously, Super Metroid. Still working my way through it, trying to savor the first playthrough and not rush it. Just heading to the Wrecked Ship.

Haven't played any Castlevania game except the first couple screens of... Dracula X, I think... on an emulator. Didn't seem to be my kinda game but then I though the same of Super Metroid.

FF8-- Saw a friend play the first 10 minutes or so years back, and I've seen a bit of the final boss... that's all. Really want to play it for a couple reasons, one being how polarizing it seems to be (though a couple folks whose opinions in games I very much trust consistently love it). Also because it seems to me like some sort of bridge between the gritty, creepy-ass messed up panache of 7 and the shiny, overwrought polish of the "new-school-new" FFs (er, that'd mean the newer of the new FFs I suppose).

Final Fantasy Tactics-- I keep hearing about how great the story is, which intrigues me, but my playing of this one depends solely on whether or not I can will myself to sit through a huge number of lengthy tactical chores battles

Never seriously played a Megaman game, probably won't. Shit's way too hardcore for me and I'm not really into it to begin with. Same goes for Contra etc.

Probably more that I'm forgetting, but there's a few!

this game is soooooo damn good. if you like zelda and havent played this then you MUST play it.

I to have never beaten any of the older Final Fantasy games. I have 3 and 4 on the DS and 1,2,5 and 6 on the GBA but I've never finished them. Oh and I can never finish Majora's Mask and I don't know why.

I'm currently playing through A Link to the Past for the first time as well. I should probably start playing this exclusively but I keep getting sidetracked by other games, namely Final Fantasy 13 and Pokemon HeartGold.

I've never played Cave Story, but I plan on changing that come Monday.

I tried to play Link's Awakening a while ago but it really wasn't doing it for me. I still have the save file. I'll probably try it again sometime.

I haven't played Shadowgate or Uninvited. I actually tried Shadowgate the other week but couldn't get passed the part right after you get inside.

I haven't played any Megaman later than 3. Not sure if I care.

Haven't played a FF passed Jap #2. I'm sure I don't care.

Not too much else that I've been meaning to play.

If we're making suggestions of must plays to others, I would like to add Dwarf Fortress. I got around to playing it a few months ago and I was surprised to find it's not quite as complicated or unintuitive as it might seem.

I haven't finished Mega Man 9 or 10. I really enjoy the games, but I honestly don't enjoy the final parts. I've always loathed fighting the robots again especially. The main problem is, I tend to blaze through those games up to that point, and if I take a break after that it's hard to get back in that mode again.

I am determined to finish them, though.

Super Mario World, for that matter almost all SNES.
Everything on PS1 except SotN and FF7
Everything on Gamecube, PS2, Xbox, X360... I mean everything. Haven't touched one yet except Wind Waker, but got lost and quit.

First of all, Link's Awakening is mega fun. I definitely reccomend you give it a whirl.

I need to play Final Fantasy VI... at all. Never played a second of it.

The others:
- Super Metroid (have played a little, but never finished)
- Chrono Cross (just got it today!)
- Final Fantasy 7 - I always get to the gold saucer, and then something gets in the way... IRL.

I'd like to play thru Chrono Trigger again....just for fun. its been ages since i've played through it all.


I can't think of anything else thats glaring that I've never played through.
