Where can we possibly go from here? Right now our repertoire contains Contra, Mega Man 2, and Ninja Gaiden. A couple of years ago I witnessed the dudes (I've only been in this band for a couple of months) attempt CV3, but...it was unpleasant enough for the guys that they pretty much swore that one off, as far as I can tell, forever. Here are some qualities of games that make sense for Bit Brigade:

-Can be beaten in 45 minutes or less.
-Has numerous pieces of music that aren't repeated too much and don't loop a thousand times per instance (I really tried to sell them on Journey to Silius, but following deeper inspection of a gameplay run through, we realized that it kind of breaks this law. Double Dragon games can be a problem here. Blaster Master is an unfortunate no-no for sure).
-Doesn't require Yngwie Malmsteen or Michael Angelo Batio to be a member of the band in order to pull off (cancels things like CV3 and Ninja Gaiden 2).
-The music is rad.
-Is fun, on some level, to watch in addition to listen to.

Contra works for Bit Brigade because the music rips ass, the gameplay is fast-paced, and it's challenging enough for Noah that it's fun to watch. MM2 isn't similarly challenging (until, arguably, some sections of the castle), but it's visually gorgeous and the music is as great as legend deems it. Ninja Gaiden is, as far as we can tell, the greatest vehicle for what Big Brigade does: killer music, fast-paced action, crazy story with a million cutscenes, tons of individual pieces of music, and a high level of difficulty which further engages the audience.

Lots of people requested Duck Tales at MAGFest. It's not difficult at all (would it be fun to watch?) and it's a tough sell to Bryant and Mike because of the cartoonishness of some of the music (all of which I love, and which people seem to want to hear...)

My first big idea was to do Punch-Out!! but with different great brawler tunes (or other appropriate music: Tetris 'B' theme for Soda Popinski, etc.) in place of the regular Punch-Out!! fight music (saving that one for Tyson himself). However, I quickly realized that Punch-Out!! is NOTHING without the sound-effects, which we really have no way of inserting without trying to find a guy who wants to sit off-stage with a sampler, firing off punch sounds and "talk" noises in real time...an almost unreasonable thing to request of anyone).

So I feel kind of stuck, and I'm wondering if you guys have any fantasies or bright ideas. CV1? (The potentially hard-sell-to-the-other-dudes idea of) trying something from another system entirely?

Dude I'm SO working on a Fantasy arrangement. Not sure if we should be stepping on each others toes as such. But, I'll be releasing my version well before next mag, and I'd LOVE to see Bit Bridage do a take on it.

;)

As long as you include your own executions of the human voice samples, that should end up being among the best things you've ever done.

i'd say Duck Tales, unless it breaks up the band is an awesome choice. to be fair, not at all my cup of tea, but every once and again it's good to please fans. AFTER ALL THE PROTOMEN MADE THEIR CAREER ON IT.

my most fhshdhfshdfhshdroopo pick would be Bucky 'O Hare

other picks:
TMNT2
Tiny Toon Adventures (although maybe that loops too much)
Little Nemo
Little Samson (would be mega hard as tracks change per character.)
Little Women, er, Monster in My Pocket
Batman- Return of the Joker
...and Totally Rad.

Myyy Fantasy totally includes you doing the guy's voice and Tina doing the "HELP! MEEE!" with some sort of horrible distortion or other filter to give it the grunge.

I would kinda NOT like Duck Tales, just because I agree that it's not BAD-ASS enough for Bit Brigade. Perhaps...

-Batman: Fairly difficult game, but less than Gaiden. Lots of radd cutscenes. Not sure about the variety of music in this one, as I haven't been super far, though...

-Battletoads: Only problem is REALLY FUCKING TOUGH, but lots of music in this one.

-Mega Man 3: For obvious reasons. Should be doable if MM2 is, right?

-Shatterhand: Good amount of great music, but maybe not quiiiiite as fun to watch.

-SUPER C: OH MY GAWD I WOULD TRIP BALLS IF YOU DID THIS!!!

-Blue Marlin: ;-)

i cross'd a barrier into SCOOPvilLe yesterday and dunked with the best jammers and fresh dip ballers roundabout through an awesome bomb dunk party.

Metal Storm could be another good pick, although 1. it's incredibly hard (ridiculous on the second quest, first quest probably isn't worse than Ninja Gaiden though), and 2. levels 1 and 5 use the same music.

Bucky 'O Hare
TMNT2
Batman- Return of the Joker
Totally Rad

I can already see these working pretty well in my head...Totally Rad for laffs if nothing else! I'll investigate the others further with Noah soon. I actually just beat Little Samson recently and the levels seemed pretty long and repetitive, but that's likely because I suck ass at video games.

I kind of think that when The People ask us for Duck Tales, they're really just asking for a super rockin' Moon Theme. I love Himalayas, The Amazon, and Transylvania just as much, but for most people we'd be playing those and it would be like Metallica slogging through a Death Magnetic medley while everyone waits for "Master of Puppets."

How long are the levels in Shatterhand?

edit: damn, you guys are shatterhanding me with the goods! I'm taking serious notes for further investigation.

edit: it's okay if something's insanely hard, I have full confidence in Noah. It's also okay if a tune repeats, so long as it's rad. In Ninja Gaiden, we repeat a couple of level themes, not to mention boss music in all of the games.

also, if it's worth your consideration- Bucky currently has no SDA entry. Noah would make instant history.
