Hey, just wondering if anyone using this here forum is in the Houston area? I'm moving out that way soon and interested in setting up a VG music band/live show act thing for some giggles and such. Just did a similar thing in Florida only to discover that... I'm moving to Texas. Anyway I figured I'd see if anybody on here was interested before I go through the tedious procedure of finding musicians and other people.

You never know, right? :P

I'm in San Antonio, but I do wish you luck on your search. I am 100% sure you can find all the members you need if you strive for it.

Yeah this is the third time I have to set up a band for the idea, first time when I was 18 in England, second when I moved to Florida and now Texas  ... only this time I have several people on board outside of just the music which will help a lot. Still Houston and the areas are round it are big enough, so hopefully I can find some people.

Yeah Brother! Hope you can get started again. Sucks starting over from scratch, but totally worth it. I'd love to share a stage with ya, and I know DoE want's more bands in the area to have shows with as well.

Alright, perhaps I am deserving of the n00b status. Who/what/when/where/how are DoE? My skill with acronyms leaves something to be desired. :P

Sorry, should have thought of that. Descendants of Erdrick. Pretty damn good video game cover band.

I'm in the Houston area but I don't know how much time I would have to devote to something like this.

Actually, I should explain the idea a bit I guess. The music idea is simply one part of it. The main thing is a full live show experience. It will all be fairly slapstick but we have some good people on board, a costume designer etc (who is damn good at what she does). Had a make up artist but we're leaving her in Florida :P ... Anyway the idea is the show as one thing. We have a load of ideas in the running right now and being an animated person, I can explain better face to face rather than text. But imagine as we play Tetris, we have a 3 man construction team building a wall of blocks before us and such. Or a dance off between Mega Man and all his enemies. Or a huge beat em'up brawl with various fighters. The list goes on.

Anyway... That's a brief take on the idea. The main thing is that we only intend to do a few shows a year so it wouldn't be a full time thing at all. I have to work and such after all haha. But the idea is to make it more than a music gig, make it a small scale entertainment event full of giggles, silly costumes and magical amounts of in jokes.

I think that sums it up but then my mind is probably filling in all the blanks and to everyone else it will be incoherent babble... wonderful!

Justin Bieber?

... they're watching me

Not to sound blunt but... why?

There's no reason that anything in life should be taken so seriously.

I actually like the idea. Have tossed around a similar idea before too. I will be willing to commute up to Houston for practices and such, and well, look at Metroid Metal, they all aren't in one spot either, so it could work.

I think one misconception people get on the idea of doing something for fun is that you aren't serious about the idea of it all which is wrong to me. My idea of saying something is for fun means I won't ruin my life nor my career to do this but I will put all I can into it and have fun doing it. I've had far to many problems with bands and such with people who have the mentality of becoming a rock star. Believe me I've seen serious cases of this, some fantastically hilarious in their idiocy. Anyway, what I'm saying is when I say for giggles I don't mean dumb garage band mentality, I just mean know what you're doing is for fun.

Anyway, back on a sort of track and at what Cuda said... travel and the time people need for their own lives won't be a particular issue since I don't plan on something like this being a "Let's play twice a week" thing. I'd like to take the time to make it good and do it when we can do it and when we can definitely make it good.

If you're interested at all and want more info, just send me a message or add me on msn and I can try my best to actual explain it. Which as already stated, I suck at but perhaps I can do a better job of... somehow :P
